Te Akau Nears Century

It's been quite a season so far for both of our stables - in New Zealand and in Singapore. After the weekend's racing, during which we celebrated wins in both countries, Te Akau Racing has trained 90 winners for the season.

Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker and Te Akau New Zealand trainer Jason Bridgman hit magical tallies in the weekend - Jason recording his 50th win for the season while Mark continued his domination of the Singapore Trainers' Premiership overseeing his 40th winner - please click on their names to view the full Premiership statistics as of today.

In New Zealand, Jason Bridgman lies in fifth position on the Trainers' Premiership with Urban Angel bringing up our half century of winners at Ruakaka on Saturday.  Jason has had a great season recording seven black type winners amongst that tally, with almost $900,000 in stakes' earnings.

Singapore is entering its seventh month of the season today and with half the year complete, Mark has maintained his stranglehold on the Trainers' Premiership - he is still ahead (by five wins) a position he has held all year - what an effort!  It was Sir Owen Glenn's horse OM who brought up win number 40 on Sunday - this is a very smart half brother to Better Than Ever, by Darci Brahma - keep an eye on him!

Incidentally what a night Darci had - bought by David and trained by Mark to win at Group 1 level five times on both sides of the Tasman, his most successful son to date Super Easy, trounced his opposition to claim another Group 1 scalp.  This time it was the Patron's Bowl and the President of Singapore was on hand to watch the race and award the trophy named in his honour.

But back to Te Akau's stellar season - 90 wins and stakes approaching $3 million, we are on target to have a record breaking year for the stable and for our owners.  The season in New Zealand is drawing to a close, having entering its final month of racing.  The new season commences on 1 August 2013 and there is a huge amount for us to look forward to with the undoubted promise of our young horses combining with the experience of those older horses still racing here.

Of course, many of our older horses have moved to Singapore and our owners are loving the rewards of racing there.  Excellent stakes and terrific television coverage means that Singapore racing is becoming more and more popular with our Te Akau owners.

We look forward to continuing to celebrate this success with you!
