Te Akau North Island Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing on Saturday 8 June: Te Rapa, and Trentham.

Te Rapa:

Weather: showery, track: Slow9, rail: true. No rain forecast.

12.12 p.m. R2 7 Summer Monsoon  (4 g Stratum - Princess Narine) - Michael McNab; has trailed well without urging for third and second respectively, and resumes in the $25,000 Rating 72 1200 metres. A winner fresh-up earlier in the season over 1250 metres, by 4 ¼ lengths on rain-affected footing, he faces an awkward draw (11) but expected to appreciate track conditions. Fixed odds: $14.00 & $4.00.

1.53 p.m. R5 2 Bak Da Master (4 g Mastercraftsman - Bak Da Princess) - Troy Harris; did well for sixth off a wide trip when resuming in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 3 May at Pukekohe, and followed up with a good second on the same course in the Rating 65 High-weight 2200 metres on 23 May. A consistent staying type horse and noticeably stronger this time in, he appears an each way chance with luck from a wide draw (15) in the $22,500 Rating 65 2100 metres. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.40.

2.28 p.m. R6 3 Al Haram  (6 g Sea the Stars - En Public) - Ryan Elliot; just missed winning (½ a head) the Rating 82 2200 metres on 4 May and had little chance from well back in a leader dominated Open 2100 metres on 18 May, both on this course. Following a hurdle trial in the interim, he drops back in grade and ideally drawn (4) in the $30,000 Rating 82 2200 metres. Fixed odds: $10.00 & $2.70.

3.03 p.m. R7 7 Conclusion  (5 g Fully Fledged - Every Reason) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); fought solidly after racing outside the leader in a notable fresh-up performance for fourth in the Rating 72 1200 metres on 18 May at Awapuni, ridden by Kamaruddin, and contests the corresponding event with weight relief to 54.5kgs. From barrier four in a strong field, he should race well again. Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.90.

Trentham:

Weather: overcast, track: Heavy11, rail: out 10 metres. No rain forecast.

1.00 p.m. R4 10 Rhapsody in Blue  (2 f Medaglia d'Oro - Kablues) - Chris Johnson; trialled well twice on dead ground and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 2YO 1000 metres. From a terrific family on the dam side, including Champion 3YO Filly in Australia Shamrocker (O'Reilly), winner of the Australian Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m) and VRC Australian Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), much will depend on how she handles the going.

3.58 p.m. R9 1 Richard of Yorke  (7 g Oasis Dream - Cascata) - Chelsea Burdan (a4); was given a cracking ride on Heavy10 to win the Rating 72 2200 metres on 16 May at Otaki, and remaining in the same grade he carries less weight (56kgs) in the $25,000 Rating 72 2100 metres. A winner previously on slow and heavy going in Australia, he appears ideally placed to go well again. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $1.85.
