Te Akau North Island Saturday Preview
Date: 9 Jun 2023
Te Akau Racing has five horses entered on Saturday 10 June: Ruakaka, and Awapuni.
Ruakaka:
Weather: fine, track: Soft5, rail: out 3 metres. No rain forecast.
1:15 p.m. R3 10 Dancarina (4 m Sebring - Dance for Me) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she scored stylishly when trialling on 26 May at Waipa, and resumes in the $30,000 Rating 75 1100 metres. Impressive winning her Maiden here over 1400 metres last year, she was a winner fresh-up this season, and rates a top three chance. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.30.
3:42 p.m. R7 1 Fellini (3 g Belardo - Silke Top) - Ngakau Hailey (a4); he displayed terrific determination making it two wins from his last three starts in the 3YO 1300 metres on 20 May at Awapuni, and contests the $30,000 3YO 1400 metres. He enjoys weight relief to 54.5kg, has genuine attributes, and is a stakes' performer, but he does require luck from a wide draw (11) and will also be required to appreciate the course at his first attempt. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.
3:42 p.m. R7 4 Bello Mio (3 g Deep Field - Bella Francesca) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); he was was unable to make headway on Heavy10 going in the 3YO 1300 metres on 20 May at Awapuni, won by stable-mate Fellini (above). He finished strongly for second on Soft6 footing in the 3YO 1400 metres on 25 April at Avondale, and has the opportunity here to bounce back with any luck from the outside gate (15) in the $30,000 3YO 1400 metres. Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.80.
Awapuni:
Weather: fine, track: Heavy9, rail: true (inside bend). No rain forecast.
1:27 p.m. R3 4 Millefiori (4 m Iffraaj - Miss Bluebell) - Niranjan Parmar (a2); she was given time (48 days) since fighting solidly for sixth on a Heavy10 track in the Anzac Mile (Listed, 1600m) here, and ran on well for second in a trial on 26 May at Waipa. She has weight relief to 52.5kg with the Te Akau apprentice engaged, and should race well in a small but select field for the $35,000 Open 1100 metres. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $1.85.
3:15 p.m. R6 4 Kai (4 m Ocean Park - Brilliant Blush) - Niranjan Parmar (a2); she resumed with a good effort for third in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 14 May at Matamata, and chased down the leader to win the Rating 75 1200 metres on 20 May at Pukekohe. She steps out in the same grade in the $30,000 Rating 75 1300 metres, has weight relief to 54.5kg, and looks a tope three prospect if she can secure a decent trip from barrier 10. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.30.
