Te Akau North Island Saturday Preview
Date: 17 Jul 2020
Te Akau New Zealand has three horses racing on Saturday 18 July: Te Rapa, and Awapuni
Te Rapa:
Weather: overcast, track: Slow9, rail: true. Showers forecast Saturday.
12.26 p.m. R5 12 Vino Bella (3 f Burgundy - Pinstinct) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); resumed
here a fortnight ago on Slow7, finishing fourth with Kamaruddin aboard in the
Pearl Series Rating 64 1000 metres. Three that finished ahead of her: Ferindi
(Ferlax), Heza Looker (Burgundy), and Lady Lira (Per Incanto), are rivals
again. Aided by weight relief to 53.5kgs, she requires luck from barrier 12. Fixed
odds: $15.00 & $4.50.
2.05 p.m. R8 12 Brymaar (4 m Ekraar - Belorussiya) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); recorded two fourths when trialling here in June and debuts from barrier six in a race named in honour of her late breeder - the $15,000 Dr. John Southworth Memorial (Rating 58, 1200m). Her dam, Belorussiya (Mr. Nancho), won twice to 1670 metres, placing 10 times, and her ability to handle rain-affected going could benefit the progeny. Given Dr Southworth was a Life Member of the Waikato Racing Club and his son Gilbert serves on the Board also, it would be a fitting result to see his beloved colours salute the judge. Fixed odds: $15.00 & $4.50.
Awapuni:
Weather: cloudy, track: Heavy11, rail: true from 850m to 400m, remainder out 9 metres. 5mls rain forecast Friday, showers Saturday.
3.32 p.m. R8 4 Richard of Yorke (8 g Oasis Dream -
Cascata) - Diego Montes de Oca (a1); found the line from a rearward position
when resuming here a fortnight ago in the Rating 81 High-weight 1550 metres. Adept in heavy footing, he
should appreciated stepping in distance for the $15,000 Rating 83 2100 metres.
Fixed odds: $9.00 & $2.50.
