Te Akau North South Midweek Preview
Date: 11 Jun 2024
Te Akau Racing has five horses entered on Wednesday 12 June: Cambridge, and Riccarton.
Cambridge:
Weather: fine, track: poly track, rail: true.
2:17 p.m. R5 2 Stonybreck (4 g Tavistock – Fair Isle) – Opie Bosson; he ran on from last to finish fourth in the Rating 75 1300 metres on 15 May at Cambridge (poly track), and was fourth again in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 30 May at Awapuni (poly track). He has won four of seven starts on poly tracks, including three of four here, and despite being drawn wide (10), he rates a top three chance in the $17,000 Rating 75 1300 metres. Fixed odds: $4.40 & $1.85.
Riccarton:
Weather: cloudy, track: poly track, rail: true.
12:49 p.m. R2 1 Treaty of Paris (4 g Tavistock – Echezeaux) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); he travelled sweetly in front when winning the Rating 75 2200 metres on 16 May at Riccarton (poly track), and goes up up 4kg to carry 59kg in the $17,000 Rating 75 2200 metres. Whilst the obvious increase in weight is not ideal, he brings winning form to the assignment and presents as a realistic first three chance.
2:34 p.m. R5 2 Caravella (4 m Caravaggio – Highland Lights) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); she recorded her fourth victory this season with a big finish in the Open Handicap 1200 metres on 16 May at Riccarton (poly track), and is one of two stablemates contesting the $22,000 Open Handicap 1200 metres. She rises 4kg to carry 59kg, but notwithstanding, is a top three prospect.
2:34 p.m. R5 5 Kabugee (4 g Satono Aladdin – Kabuki) – Ashvin Goindasamy; he ran the fastest last 600m (34.3) when finishing third in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 30 May at Awapuni (poly track), and steps up in the $22,000 Open Handicap 1200 metres. He is a good athlete,is ideally drawn (2), and should be right in the thick of proceedings at the business end.
3:15 p.m. R6 1 Angels Wings (4 m Heroic Valour – Gowana) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); she did very well from her outside gate (14) for third in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 16 May at Riccarton (poly track), and contests the $17,000 Entain-NZB Insurance Pearl Series Rating 65 Fillies & Mares 1200 metres. She produced a notable effort in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 4 May at Riccarton, and is another who looks to have first four claims from the handy barrier four.
