Te Akau Racing has 11 horses entered on Saturday 6 May: Te Rapa, and Riccarton.

Te Rapa:

Weather: overcast, track: Heavy9, rail: out 10 metres. Showers forecast.

11:42 a.m. R1 1 Bak Da Master (8 g Mastercraftsman - Bak Da Princess) - Shaun Fannin; he raced well for third in the Rating 65 Jumpers High-weight 1950 metres on 28 April at Rotorua, and contests the $30,000 Open Hurdle (2800m). He possesses a good hurdling record, including being runner-up in the Waikato Hurdle (3200m) here, and rates a top three chance. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.35.

11:42 a.m. R1 6 Aquilo (5 g Frankel - Stormy Lucy) - Michael Roustoby (a1); he won a hurdle trial on 27 April at Cambridge, and resumes in the $30,000 Open Hurdle (2800m). He receives the opportunity to measure up and debuts over the hurdles, although at the other end of the experience spectrum of his stablemate above. Fixed odds: $15.00 & $3.20.

1:24 p.m. R4 3 Zeitaku (4 g Savabeel - Miss Opulence) - Jessica Allen (a4); he sustained a strong finish for fifth in the Rating 75 1600 metres here on 15 April, and contests the $30,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. A course/distance winner, with weight relief to 55.5kg, he should be finding the line solidly again. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.50.

1:58 p.m. R5 7 Aris Aris (4 m Contributer - Irish Encore) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she extended a very good record with second-up victory in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 25 March at Tauranga, and was a notable fifth in the Power Turf Sprint (Listed, 1200m) on 15 April at Hastings. Placed two from two on the course, she presents as a realistic top three chance in the $35,000 Open 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $10.00 & $2.70.

2:32 p.m. R6 4 Viva Vienna (2 f All Too Hard - Anna of Austria) - Warren Kennedy; she made it two from two on the course in the 2YO 1100 metres on 15 April, with Kennedy also aboard, and contests the $65,000 Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre 2YO Stakes (Listed, 1200m). She has the speed to utilize barrier one and looks a top three prospect if the draw works to advantage. Fixed odds: $2.80 & $1.30.

3:08 p.m. R7 1 Navalha (5 g Sebring - Afiado) - Jessica Allen (a4); he never got a crack from last in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 15 April at Te Rapa, and drops in grade for the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. He enjoys weight relief to 56kg, is ideally drawn (3), has good form in stronger fields, and has first four claims  Fixed odds: $11.00 & $3.50.

3:08 p.m. R7 3 Freeze Frame (3 g Vadamos - Snow Petal) - Opie Bosson; he was not pressured when running home well in a trial on 24 April at Waipa, and resumes in the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. He won his Maiden over 1200 metres on a Heavy10 track in January at Matamata and has a very consistent record, but requires luck from his wide draw (15). Fixed odds: $3.30 & $1.60.

3:08 p.m. R7 8 Tenebrosi (3 g Caravaggio - Dark and Stormy) - Michael McNab; he ended his previous three start campaign by winning the Maiden 3YO 1100 metres on 8 March at Taupo. He kept up a strong gallop to photo-finish (second) in a trial on 24 April at Waipa, and also resumes in the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. He should race well if he can secure a decent trip from the tricky barrier 11. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.30.

3:08 p.m. R7 12 Puzzle Solved (3 f Rubick - Sandownboulevard) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she raced away on Slow7 footing to win the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 3 February at Te Rapa, but wasn't in the same form when resuming without a trial on Good4 going in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 14 April at Awapuni. Drawn wide (12) in the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres, she receives the opportunity to improve with give in the ground. Fixed odds: $15.00 & $4.50.

4:18 p.m. R9 5 Prismatic (4 g Savabeel - Kaleidoscope) - Opie Bosson; he ran the fastest last 600m (34.3) closing for third when resuming in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 25 April at Avondale, and contests the $14,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. During his previous campaign, he capped a hat-trick of seconds with success over 2200 metres at Awapuni. He has returned in good order, but is yet another who requires everthing to go his way from his wide gate (16). Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.

Weather: drizzling, track: Soft6, rail: true. 3mls rain forecast Friday and 8mls Saturday.

2:13 p.m. R5 1 Cu Chulainn (2 g Burgundy - Niamh Elizabeth) - Wiremu Pinn (a); he won his first two starts in style, including the 2YO 1000 metres here on 25 March, before finishing a gallant second to race rival Penvose Lad (U S Navy Flag) in the corresponding race a fortnight ago. Racing well, he rates a top three chance in the $65,000 Berkley Stud Champagne Stakes (Listed, 1200m). Fixed odds: $2.80 & $1.25.
