Te Akau North~South Thursday Preview

Te Akau Racing has nine horses entered on Thursday 27 June: Te Aroha, and Riccarton.

Te Aroha:

Weather: fine, track: Heavy8, rail: out 5.5 metres. No rain forecast.

3:32 p.m. R9 2 Merlotti (4 g Burgundy – Ruppertsberg) – Warren Kennedy; he fought well in more testing ground near the rail in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 5 June at Matamata, won by stable-mate Polly Plum (Xtravagant), and contests the $17,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. One of two lining up in the event for the stable, he resumed with victory in the Rating 60 1200 metres, three starts ago at Matamata, and has won right-handed on heavy footing over 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.45.

3:32 p.m. R9 6 Baronet (4 g Contributer – Alpha Dame) – Wiremu Pinn; he fought hard for a close third in the Rating 60 1400 metres on 25 May at Pukekohe, and emulated that performance in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 5 June at Matamata, won by stable-mate Polly Plum (Xtravagant). Racing well, he rates a top three chance in the $17,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.05.

Riccarton:

Weather: drizzling, track: poly track, rail: true. Showers forecast.

11:48 a.m. R2 2 Time Is King (3 g Darci Brahma – Tiffany’s Time) – Ashvin Goindasamy; he swept around to lead at the 600m before yielding late, finishing fourth in the Maiden 1400 metres here (poly track) on 13 June, and contests the $17,000 Maiden 1600 metres. Continuing to improve, he rates a top three chance from barrier seven. Fixed odds: $3.50 & $1.40.

12:22 p.m. R3 1 Hayate (5 m Maurice – Vamoose) – Yogesh Atchamah (a3); she raced handily and lifted well for second in the Pearl Series Rating 65 1600 metres here (poly track) on 13 June, and contests the $17,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. She won a Rating 60 2000 metres at Cambridge (poly track) three starts ago, is racing well and presents as a top three contender from barrier two.  Fixed odds: $2.40 & $1.30.

2:07 p.m. R6 7 Not Straight Laced (3 f Turn Me Loose – Clos De Tart) – Ashvin Goindasamy; she finished strongly out of the pack for third when resuming in the Pearl Series Maiden 1300 metres on 22 May at Taupo, and emulated that effort in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 5 June at Matamata.  A genuine performer, she is a top three prospect in the $17,000 Maiden 1200 metres if she is appreciative of the poly track at her first attempt on the surface. Fixed odds: $1.95 & $1.15.

2:42 p.m. R7 2 Angels Wings (4 m Heroic Valour – Gowana) – Courtney Barnes; she kept giving to finish second in the Pearl Series Rating 65 1200 metres here (poly track) on 12 June, and is one of two stablemates to contest the $17,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. She has been course/distance placed at her last two starts and can feature in the finish from barrier six. Fixed odds: $3.20 & $1.45.

2:42 p.m. R7 3 French Rose (4 m Burgundy – Paraiba) – Ashvin Goindasamy; she finished solidly for second off an economical trip in the $17,000 Rating 65 1200 metres here (poly track) on 13 June, and contests the corresponding event. Likewise a course/distance winner early in the season, she brings good poly track form to the contest, and she's ideally drawn (2) to be a top three contender. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $1.85.

3:17 p.m. R8 5 Kabugee (4 g Satono Aladdin – Kabuki) – Ashvin Goindasamy; he was shuffled back when finishing fifth in the Open Handicap 1200 metres here (poly track) on 12 June, and drops in grade for the $17,000 Rating 75 1200 metres. Prior, he ran the fastest last 600m (34.3) when finishing third in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 30 May at Awapuni (poly track), and is capable of a top three finish from barrier four. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.30.

3:57 p.m. R9 7 Star In The Sky (4 m Savabeel – Pikari Star) – Michael McNab; she ran home solidly from the rear in the Pearl Series Rating 65 1600 metres here (poly track) on 13 June, and contests the $17,000 Rating 65 & Jumpers 2200 metres. She came from the rear for fourth in the Rating 65 2200 metres here (poly track) on 31 May, is suited to stepping again in distance and has first four claims. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.60.
