Te Akau NZ Avondale Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered during the twelve-race programme on Monday October 7 at Avondale.

As at 3:46pm on Sunday Oct. 6 the conditions were: fine and Dead5, rail true.

1:45pm R4 9 Jewels Gift (3 f Stravinsky - Jesmonds Gift) - Matt Cameron; resumes from a 208-day break with the benefit of two thirds at the trials. She had a niggling injury after her debut run behind Kirramosa, Puccini and Miss Mossman on debut in March at Matamata. It is difficult to assess her prospects, but form from her debut outing should see her prove competitive from barrier seven in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres.

2:56pm R6 6 Hardcore Rock (3 c Fastnet Rock - River Dreaming) - Matt Cameron; flattened out with a strong close for third when making his debut on Sept. 9 in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres Dead4 at Taupo. Given time since, he comes in off 28-days and from barrier one steps up to 1400 metres. The style of his first race performance makes him a strong contender here. Hailing from one of the great families in world racing, his third dam, All Along (Targowice), was Horse of the Year in the USA and won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, as did another member in the family Urban Sea (Miswaki).

3:32pm R7 13 Osmunda (3 f O'Reilly - Wyndam Special) - Matt Cameron; makes her debut from a wide barrier over 1400 metres. Her two preparatory trials were very good. She circled from last over 800 metres and let down in good fashion to finish fourth on Aug. 27 at Te Teko, and more recently forged a big finish between horses for third on Sept. 10 at Cambridge. Her dam, Wyndam Special, won her first two races, including the Cadbury Roses (Listed, 1200m) second-up at Flemington, and given a drag into proceedings this filly boasts the right attributes to give a good account.
