Te Akau NZ Ellerslie Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered during the ten-race premier programme on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday Nov. 5, at Ellerslie.

As at 4:36 on Monday Nov. 4 the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail out 10 metres.

6:14pm R9 22 Abidewithme (4 m Redoute's Choice - Crimson) - rider to be advised; has looked very good in two preparatory trials, the latest of which she finished second to stable-mate O'Darci (Darci Brahma) who subsequently won as he liked resuming at Hastings. Having last raced in the Wellfield New Zealand Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) in March at Trentham, she is ready to resume from a seven-month break from barrier one in the Benchmark 85 1400 metres. Shown to act fresh, following a win on debut at Timaru, and victory here over a mile off 56-days at her only course attempt, she brings the right credentials. Initially sixth on the ballot, she has made the field and trainer Jason Bridgman will weigh up the options as she has also accepted to contest the Benchmark 75 1350 metres on Wednesday at Paeroa.

6:50pm R10 2 Prospero (6 g High Chaparral - Alfred's Jewel) - Matt Cameron; got back in running and came late to grab fourth when resuming from an 85-day let up on Oct. 12 in the Benchmark 75 1600 metres on Slow9 at Matamata. He shapes as a horse that will appreciate stepping up in distance for the Benchmark 75 2400 metres, but trainer Jason Bridgman would also like to see some give in the ground to enhance his prospects.
