Te Akau NZ Gisborne Preview
20 September, 2013
Te Akau New Zealand has five horses entered during the eight-race programme on Sunday September 22 at Gisborne.
As at 8:52am on Friday Sept. 20 the conditions were: fine and Dead5, rail true.
1:30pm R3 5 Chambord (3 g Zabeel - Miss Montjeu) - Matt Cameron; raced handy to the pace and finished fifth on debut to stable-mate Wolfwhistle on Sept. 9 in the Maiden 1300 metres at Taupo. He had displayed a terrific turn of foot, from the rear, to win his trial over 1000 metres on Aug. 6 at Te Teko, and will come from the back in this small field. He wears a tongue tie in addition to his gear.
2:30pm R5 7 Flirty Gertey (3 f Thorn Park - Granma Gertey) - Matt Cameron; makes her debut from barrier six in the Maiden Fillies and Mares 1350 metres. In the more recent of two preparatory trials at Te Teko, she picked up nicely from six lengths off the leader at the 600 metres and displayed good attributes in finishing third. Her dam, Granma Gertey (Danzero), finished second on debut in the Blue Diamond Preview (Gr. 3, 1000m) at Caulfield, and returned to the same venue off a spell to again run second in the Quizette Stakes (Listed, 1200m).
3:05pm R6 10 Sir Darci (3 g Darci Brahma - Dominant) - Matt Cameron; had no luck on debut when inconvenienced rounding the home turn on Sept. 9 in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres at Taupo. He steps up to 1350 metres and should receive a nice trip from barrier six. A grandson of AJC Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) and NZ Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) winning filly Domino (Grosvenor), he is out of a sister to grand sprinter Hero (Deputy Governor).
3:40pm R7 11 Cold Snap (5 m Pins - Forty Two Below) - Matt Cameron; struck worse footing than she prefers when resuming on Aug. 26 in the Benchmark 75 1200 metres at Avondale, but has shown to come through the race in very good order. She boasts a good turn of foot in the right situation, to prove competitive in the Benchmark 75 1350 metres.
4:15pm R8 5 Exabelle (5 m Exceed and Excel - Avabelle) - Michael Dee (a3); resumes from a 136-day spell with blinkers on in the Benchmark 65 1200 metres. While she will derive benefit from the trip away, and race, barrier two should ensure her a nice passage in which to produce a cheeky performance with weight relief to 54.5kgs.
Bet of the week: Sir Darci
