Te Akau NZ Hastings Preview
1 May, 2013
Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered for the eight-race programme on Friday May 3 at Hastings.
As at 8:49am on Wednesday May 1 the conditions were: cloudy and Dead5, rail out six metres.
12:53pm R2 10 Cold Snap (4 m Pins - Forty Two Below) - Matt Cameron; was steadied to last off a wide gate and made good ground in a circling run from the 600 metres to finish fourth, 1.1 lengths from the winner, when resuming from a spell on April 8 in the Benchmark 75 1200 metres on good footing at New Plymouth. In the corresponding event, she has again drawn wide but in her favour is more give in the ground and that she won second up at a similar time last season.
1:28pm R3 15 Show No Emotion (3 f Pins - Lynisky) - Matt Cameron; was all at sea trialling recently on heavy footing, but had shown ability to quicken on dead ground. A filly of massive proportions, she makes her debut from a wide barrier in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. Her dam, Lynisky (Stravinsky), won second up in May of her two-year-old season over 1200 metres on dead ground at Avondale.
2:38pm R5 1 Viana (4 m Volksraad - Hecuba) - Michael Dee (a3); drops considerably in grade following a solid performance for fourth last Sunday, April 28, in the Marlborough Cup (Open, 1950m) at Blenheim. Rated 79, she will carry 56kgs, with a three-kilo allowance, from barrier three in the Benchmark 75 2000 metres. Yet to be tried on the course, improving track conditions and advantage near the rail would assist her chances.
