Te Akau NZ Hastings Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses entered during the eight-race programme on Thursday October 24 at Hastings.

As at 9:19am on Wednesday Oct. 23 the conditions were: overcast and Dead6, rail out 6 metres.

2:40pm R3 13 The Musician (3 g Minstrel Court - Carrots) - Mick Dee (a3); makes his debut from barrier four in the Maiden 1200 metres. A tall and angular horse, he has gained experience from three trials in this preparation. From an unraced Ishiguru mare, his grand-dam, Greensleeves (Green Perfume) raced well fresh up over 1200 metres in winning six times and further back Snuff (Deputy Governor) showed plenty of ability in winning ten races before becoming a good producer. Able to utilize a handy draw, he has a few indicators in his favour to run a race.

3:50pm R5 8 Longbeach (3 c Fastnet Rock - Betwixt) - Mick Dee (a3); worked along in front and fought solidly for fifth when debuting on Oct. 10 over 1400 metres at Taupo. Over the same trip from barrier ten, he will be given time to settle and round off in determined fashion. While not lacking for size and strength, he has continued to improve ahead of this assignment and coming from a family of genuine performers he appears a type that will keep getting better.

4:25pm R6 3 O'Darci (3 g Darci Brahma - O'Sequita) - Matt Cameron; sustained a big finish, showing good stretch, winning on debut over 1200 metres in May on slow ground at Woodville, and resumes off 168-day break. He won a recent trial on Oct. 8 over 1200 metres on dead footing at Cambridge, when travelling comfortably on the pace wearing blinkers he quickened off the turn to score easily over stable-mate Abidewithme and Fantastic Honour. From barrier two in the Benchmark 65 1400 metres, he should prove very competitive.

5:00pm R7 10 Bronte Lass (5 m Stravinsky - Little Dorritt) - Matt Cameron; never really copped the tight, undulating course and shifty footing when resuming from a 153-day break on Oct. 9 in the Benchmark 85 1400 metres at Taupo. With a good record at mile, she should receive an economical passage from barrier six and showing further improvement from her fresh up run she can quicken into the action.
