Te Akau NZ Hastings Preview
11 December, 2013
Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the eight-race twilight programme on Thursday Dec. 12 at Hastings.
As on Wednesday Dec. 11 the conditions were: cloudy and Dead4, rail out 7.5 metres.
5:45pm R5 10 Sovereign Rose (6 m Pins - Pavan) - Mick Dee (a2); missed the Benchmark 75 2100 metres last Thursday with the cancellation of the meeting at New Plymouth, and steps over ground for the second time in this campaign. Although out of her rightful grade in the Benchmark 85 2100 metres, she has drawn favourably in barrier five and carries only 52kgs courtesy of an apprentice claim. With improvement still to come she will be ridden quietly and look to finish off strongly.
6:15pm R6 11 Speeding (3 f Volksraad - Rapida) - Matt Cameron; makes her debut from barrier six in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres. She performed admirably in two preparatory trials, making good ground for second in the most recent on Nov. 13 over 1200 metres at Cambridge. A sister to stakes winner Gin Dartre and half-sister to Courtney (Montjeu) and Smokin' Gun (High Chaparral), she has factors in her favour to act in a fresh state. She also has 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winners Dorabella (Postponed) and Insouciant (Keeper) featuring in her family. Likely to settle in midfield, she has the length of stride and ability to quicken into contention.
