Te Akau NZ Labour Day Monday Preview

Te Akau Racing has five horses entered on Monday 28 October at Te Rapa.

Te Rapa:

Weather: overcast, track: Good4, rail: out 3 metres. Showers forecast Monday.

2:21 p.m. R4 11 Inspired By Art (4 m So You Think – La Bella Delicia) – Wiremu Pinn; she sustained a strong gallop for second in a trial on 19 September at Rotorua, and resumed race cay here with an impressive victory in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 12 October. While she is up in grade for the $40,000 Rating 75 1200 metres, and is undoubtedly destined for further success, she presents as a top three chance with a good dose of luck from her wide barrier draw (10). Fixed odds: $3.20 & $1.50.

2:56 p.m. R5 4 Wild Night (5 g Vanbrugh – Supreme) – Wiremu Pinn; he remained unbeaten in three starts on his home track when resuming with victory in the Open Handicap 1300 metres on 2 October at Matamata, and he is one of two stablemates contesting the $50,000 Open Handicap 1400 metres. The winner of seven from 14 starts, he possesses excellent course/distance credentials including victory in the Group 2 Sarten Memorial at corresponding meeting as three-year-old. It was terrific to see him return to the winner’s circle after a long lay off and he is capable of proving competitive but is yet another who has drawn disadvantageously wide(13). Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.75.

2:56 p.m. R5 11 Petrucci (5 m I Am Invincible – Via Napoli) – Matt Cartwright; the second runner for the team in this event, she made ground stylishly after missing the start by many lengths in the Rating 75 1200 metres here on 12 October, and likewise contests the $50,000 Open Handicap 1400 metres. While she steps up in grade for this assignment, she is down on the minimum weight (54kg), and has the talent to prove far more competitive than her form line suggests - however to have a winning chance, she is another that will need things to go her way from the awkward draw (9). Fixed odds: $10.00 & $3.10.

4:08 p.m. R7 9 Captured By Love (3 f Written Tycoon – Moldova) – Wiremu Pinn; she kept closing into second when resuming in the Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes 1200m on 7 September at Hastings, and has been something of a talking point since she staged a huge run for third after rearing as gates opened in the Group 2 Hawkes Bay Guineas on 2 October at Matamata, won by race rival Savaglee. She is having her first start on the course in the $150,000 Group 2 James and Annie Sarten Memorial and while she meets a good field, she brings very good credentials to the fight, and warrants favouritism. Fixed odds: $1.85 & $1.15.

4:47 p.m. R8 1 My Lips Are Sealed (4 m Ace High – Tellmeaboutit) – Wiremu Pinn; she followed back-to-back wins over 1400 metres with a good finish out of midfield for second in the Rating 75 1600 metres here on 12 October, won by race rival Herbert , and contests the $40,000 Rating 75 1600 metres. She is the highest rated (78) in this line up so has to contend with the top weight (59.5kg) and, to make matters worse, a shocking draw (17). However she is racing in great form and just requires some luck to prove competitive. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.50.
