Te Akau NZ Matamata Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered for the seven-race programme on Friday July 19 at Matamata.

As at 8:57am on Thursday July 18 the conditions were: cloudy and Slow9, rail out 11 metres.

1:03pm R1 8 Kayleen (3 f Towkay - Indomitable) - Brendan Hutton (a3); landed back in the field, worked to make ground near the rail on a solid pace and lacked a final kick in the Maiden 1400 metres here on Heavy10 footing, July 1. Reverting back to 1200 metres, having finished second here over the same trip at her previous start, she receives weight relief to carry 53.5kgs and a return to her best can see her competitive.

3:58pm R6 8 Prospero (5 g High Chaparral - Alfred's Jewel) - Matt Cameron; carried top weight of 59kgs, made an early move and lengthened like a good horse to win here on Heavy10 footing in the Benchmark 65 2000 metres on July 1. Under the same impost, over the equal trip, he is expected to appreciate slow footing and although up in grade he again appears a strong chance.

4:33pm R7 2 Sneaky Feelings (3 f High Chaparral - Landara) - Matt Cameron; displayed fighting qualities when seeing off her rivals to win the Maiden 1600 metres here on July 1. A filly that will improve with maturity, she has done well subsequently to warrant a step up in the Benchmark 65 2000 metres and drawing off the rail at this stage of the meeting should prove ideal.
