Te Akau NZ Saturday Preview
7 September, 2018
Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing on Saturday 8 September.
Wanganui:
As on Friday 7 September the conditions were: fine and Heavy10, rail true. Showers forecast Friday, no rain Saturday.
2.42 p.m. R4 4 The Real Beel (3 f Savabeel - Ahna) - Jason Waddell; trialled nicely for fourth on 17 July at Te Rapa, and resumed with a notable fourth in the 3YO Fillies 1100 metres on 22 August at Taupo, with Waddell aboard. Impressive winning on debut, third in the Matamata Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m), she finished fifth to stable-mates Sword Of Osman (Savabeel) and Avantage (Fastnet Rock) in the Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m), and has the quality to prove competitive in the $50,000 O'Leary's Fillies Stakes (Listed, 1200m) if she handles the conditions. Fixed odds: $9.50 & $3.00.
2.42 p.m. R4 7 Ritzy Sparkle (3 f Pins - Kumari) - Danielle Johnson; trialled well for a close fifth on 13 August at Te Teko, and was good after the line when fifth resuming in the 3YO Fillies 1100 metres on 22 August at Taupo. A debut winner over 1200 metres on Slow9 in May at Pukekohe, she can figure in an even field where handling conditions looks imperative. Fixed odds: $17.00 & $4.80.
Riccarton:
As on Friday 7 September the conditions were: fine and Heavy10, rail out 6 metres. No rain forecast.
1.45 p.m. R3 6 Devil May Care (5 g Lonhro - Devil's Song) - Shafiq Rusof; trialled well for two thirds in August at Te Teko, both on Heavy10, and resumes in the $25,000 Rating 72 1200 metres. He went out a winner in April, recording two wins from his last three starts (clocking the fastest final 600m of the day in each of those races), and finished third or better in five of his six starts. Ridden quietly, he could finish strongly and threaten a handy field. Fixed odds: $3.30 & $1.35.
2.59 p.m. R5 2 Conclusion (5 g Fully Fledged - Every Reason) - Shafiq Rusof; trialled well for second on 21 August at Te Rapa, and having his first start for the stable in the $22,500 Rating 65 1000 metres. Patiently handled, he won over 1200 metres on Heavy11 in February at Pukekohe, has consistent trial and race form, and should go well in this field. Fixed odds: $2.40 & $1.12.
3.34 p.m. R6 9 Quattro Katie (3 f Zoustar - Kakakakatie) - Shafiq Rusof; trialled well for second on 28 August at Te Teko, and resumes in the $25,000 3YO 1000 metres. She beat stable-mate and Champion Two-Year-Old Avantage (Fastnet Rock) on heavy ground in their first trials as a two-year-old, and ridden to find the line a bold effort could result. Fixed odds: $6.20 & $2.10.
4.44 p.m. R8 1 Richard Of Yorke (7 g Oasis Dream - Cascata) - Nik Bakar (a4); worked home in staying fashion when trialling on 13 August at Te Teko, and having his first start for the stable after finishing fourth on heavy ground over 2400 metres on 23 June at Randwick. The Te Akau apprentice has won two of his three race day rides and claims to 57kgs. A winner on slow and heavy ground over 2400 metres, at Royal Ascot, Sandown, and Randwick, with the addition of blinkers and a tongue tie he could go well in the $25,000 Rating 72 1600 metres before stepping up. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.55.
