Te Akau NZ Saturday Preview
26 April, 2019
Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing on Saturday 27 April: Te Rapa and Hastings.
Te Rapa:
As on Friday 26 April the conditions were: overcast and Dead4, rail true. Showers forecast Saturday morning.
2.17 p.m. R5 1 Jet Set (4 g Savabeel - Society Lady) - Opie Bosson; handled slow ground with a solid effort for second in the Maiden 1400 metres on 12 April at Rotorua. He appears ideally drawn (5) to rate a top three chance in the $20,000 Maiden 1400 metres.
2.53 p.m. R6 3 Remington (4 g Darci Brahma - Kudamm) - Chelsea Burdan (a4); won three of his four starts during a spring campaign at Riccarton, and resumed with a pretty good effort up in grade and carrying a big weight (59.5kgs) in the Rating 82 1200 metres on 6 April at Te Aroha. Claiming to 55.5kgs in the $30,000 Rating 82 1400 metres, the winner of four from nine should go well in a very strong and even field. Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.80.
2.53 p.m. R6 8 She's Not Bad (4 m He's Remarkable - Andra) - Opie Bosson; was freshened after winning the Rating 72 1400 metres here on 20 January, and resumed with another impressive victoryin the Rating 72 1200 metres on 5 April at Awapuni. Up in grade for the $30,000 Rating 82 1400 metres, drawn wide (11) makes it tricky in a tough race. But, the winner of four from eight has to be respected. Fixed odds: $4.50 & $1.90.
3.28 p.m. R7 2 Our Abbadean (6 m Lookin At Lucky - Highland Lights) - Opie Bosson; contested all three legs of the Triple Crown at Hastings, including very good performances for third and fifth, respectively, to stable-mate Melody Belle (Commands) in the Tarzino Trophy (Gr. 1, 1400 metres) and Windsor Park Plate (Gr. 1, 1600m). She finished third in the Captain Cook Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) in December at Trentham, and resumed in the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) on 6 April at Te Aroha, where she was flat keeping up on a torrid pace. She brought scintillating form when winning the $100,000 Travis Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m) last year and rates a top four chance from barrier two. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.35.
Hastings:
As on Friday 26 April the conditions were: fine and Dead6, rail out 4 metres. No rain forecast.
12.52 p.m. R2 6 Lethal (2 c Savabeel - Katie Lee) - Rosie Myers; wound up strongly for a close second at the trials on 2 April at Avondale, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 2YO 1200 metres. He continues to improve with experience and finds an ideal race to kick off. His dam, Katie Lee (Pins), was the first horse in history to win both the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).
3.52 p.m. R7 12 Ristretto (3 f Makfi - Espresso Cavallo) - Rosie Myers; produced a polished display to win last season as a two-year-old over 1100 metres, and ready to resume following two quiet trials. She displayed gate speed and plenty of talent in winning her two trials before racing and has the quality to perform well fresh despite an awkward draw (9) in the $22,500 Rating 65 1200 metres.
