Te Akau NZ Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has ten horses racing on Saturday 10 October: Matamata, and Hawera.

Matamata:

Weather: overcast, track: Dead4, rail: true. No rain forecast.

12.57 p.m. R2 6 Fashion Shoot (3 f Savabeel - High Fashion) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); fought hard for third after leading on debut in the Maiden 1100 metres on 12 Au gust at Taupo, and won easily in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 17 September at Te Rapa. Ideally drawn (3), with weight relief to 51.5kgs in the $25,000 3YO 1400 metres, she meets a smart field. Fixed odds: $9.50 & $2.30.

2.07 p.m. R4 1 Brando (3 c Savabeel - Saoirse) - Opie Bosson; has won all four trials and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. From a speedy family he has the athleticism to position handily from barrier five and appears tough to beat. Fixed odds: $1.60 & $1.15.

2.42 p.m. R5 8 Top Brass (5 g Epaulette - Highlight) - Opie Bosson; had won two from three before leading a torrid pace fresh-up in the Rating 72 1300 metres on 19 September at Hastings, finishing a close fifth. Tough and determined, he has the addition of side winkers and rates a top three chance, drawn barrier two, in the $27,500 Rating 74 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $1.95.

2.42 p.m. R5 12 Exaltation (4 m Not A Single Doubt - Meleka Belle) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); impressed winning on debut over 1200 metres last October at Riccarton, and produced an unbelievable fresh-up performance to win the Rating 65 1200 metres in February at Hastings. A half-sister to stable-mate and Horse of the Year Melody Belle (Commands), winner of 11 Group 1 races, she has weight relief to 51kgs and strengthens the hand for trainer Jamie Richards in the $27,500 Rating 74 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.70.

2.42 p.m. R5 15 High Achiever (4 g Pins - Thee Achiever) - Ashvin Goindasamy (a2); made it two from two with a fresh-up victory in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 13 September at Taupo, after trialling well for fourth to Group 2 winner Yearn (Savabeel) on 3 September at Te Teko. He has run quick 600-metre sectionals in each win, 34.5 and 34.4 respectively, and with weight relief to 54.5kgs should acquit himself well in the $27,500 Rating 74 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.

2.42 p.m. R5 16 Vicenza (4 m Sacred Falls - Tonic) - Diego Montes de Oca (a1); inconvenienced by fallen runner when rearward fresh-up in the $27,500 Rating 74 1200 metres on 26 September at Ellerslie, and contests the corresponding event. She recorded back-to-back wins to 1600 metres before spelling in March and should be finding the line. Fixed odds: $21.00 & $5.50.

3.18 p.m. R6 10 Aromatic (4 m Sacred Falls - Vickezzchardonnay) - Danielle Johnson; followed two seconds cantering home to win by more than six lengths over 1400 metres in March at Rotorua, and after two preparatory trials she resumes in the $22,500 Rating 65 1400 metres. She meets a few with race day fitness, but ideally drawn (1) and plenty of ability to rate a top three chance. Fixed odds: $3.50 & $1.65.

3.53 p.m. R7 8 Burgundy Belle (5 m Burgundy - Spin ‘N Grin) - Danielle Johnson; resumed with a top run for second in the Rating 82 1200 metres on 19 September at Hastings, when claimed late by subsequent winner Mascarpone (Shooting to Win). The winner of four from 10, with two seconds and three thirds, she has a first and second from two course attempts and rates a top three chance in the $50,000 Team Wealleans Matamata Cup (Listed, 1400 metres). Fixed odds: $4.40 & $1.85.

Hawera:

Weather: cloudy, track: Dead4, rail: true. Occasional showers forecast.

12.40 p.m. R2 5 Bak Da Master(6 g Mastercraftsman - Bak Da Princess) - Michael Roustoby (a2); produced a proficient display of jumping to win the Maiden Hurdle (2900m) here on 11 September and ran a big race for second last Friday in the Rating 74 2100 metres at Te Rapa. He meets a couple of hardened jumpers in the $20,000 Open Hurdle (2900m), but brings the right form to prove competitive. Fixed odds: $3.40 & $1.35.

2.25 p.m. R5 5 Star of Bombay(4 m Atlante - Astardia) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); stakes placed at her fourth start and went one better with a clinical victory in the Mufhasa Fasttrack Stakes (Listed, 1300m) on Derby Day (Feb. 29) at Ellerslie, she ended her first campaign in March with a notable fourth in the Wellington Guineas (Gr. 2, 1400m). She was stylish winning a trial on 22 September at Rotorua, not missed a beat and appears a strong chance under 52kgs in the $32,500 Open 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $2.30 & $1.20.
