Te Akau New Zealand has ten horses racing on Saturday 7 September: Wanganui, Riccarton, and Royal Randwick (Sydney).
Wanganui:
Weather: showery, track: Heavy11, rail: true. 5mls forecast to 6 a.m. Saturday, otherwise cloudy.
12.19 p.m. R1 1 Cool Aza Beel (2 c Savabeel - Cool ‘N' Sassy) - Troy Harris; has looked good winning both his trials, on slow footing, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 2YO 800 metres. A natural runner, his dam, Cool ‘N' Sassy (Testa Rossa), won three times to 1200 metres in Australia, including one on heavy ground, and he appears ideally placed in a field of five. Fixed odds: $2.40 & $1.10.
Riccarton:
Weather: showery, track: Heavy10, rail: out 8 metres to 1000 metres, remainder out 11 metres. No rain forecast.
12.30 p.m. R2 1 Golden Age (4 g Savabeel - La Belle
Epoque) - Michael McNab; was unlucky not to win during in his first campaign,
with two seconds, a third, and two fourths, from six starts up to 2100 metres.
Good through the line in two trials this time in, he resumes in the $10,000
Maiden 1400 metres. He brings good form, but handling conditions will be
paramount to his chances. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.65.
1.40 p.m. R4 2 Quattro Katie (4 m Zoustar -
Kakakakatie) - Jason
Laking; was unlucky not to win during a Southern spring campaign when
placing three times from five starts, including a third in the Canterbury Belle
Stakes (Listed, 1200m), and spelled following a clinical victory over 1200 metres in March at
Matamata. Looking good in two trials - most recently second on heavy ground at
Avondale - she has the right course form to rate an each way chance in the
$22,500 Rating 65 1000 metres. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.40.
1.40 p.m. R4 9 Louis
Luck (3 g Dissident - My Option) - Michael McNab; won on debut and
freshened after contesting the Karaka Million (Restricted Listed, 1200m), won by stable-mate
Probabeel (Savabeel), both owned by Cambridge Stud. Able to act fresh, handling
conditions will be paramount to his chances in the $22,500 Rating 65 1000
metres. Fixed odds: $2.50 & $1.35.
2.17 p.m. R5 3 Folk Dress (3 f Pierro - Gypsy Chimes) - Michael McNab; recorded
back-to-back wins
before a close fourth in a very good field for the Waikato Equine Vet
Centre 2YO Stakes (Listed, 1100m) in May at Te Rapa. She handled heavy going to
finish second when trialling recently at Avondale, and has the class to prove
competitive fresh-up in a good field for the $25,000 3YO 1000 metres. Fixed odds:
$4.20 & $1.80.
2.57 p.m. R6 5 Sword of Osman (4 g Savabeel - Bunyah) - Michael McNab; has
won five from 11, including Group 1, 2, & 3 up to 1400 metres, and resumes
in the $35,000 Open 1000 metres. He recently finished third in the same trial
as Folk Dress, above, at Avondale, has no shortage of strength, but unknown
racing on heavy footing. Fixed odds: $3.90 & $1.60.
3.32 p.m. R7 5 Miss Scandinavia (5 m Smart Missile -
Miss Helsinki) - Michael
McNab; ended her previous campaign with a big finish for second in the
Rating 72 1600 metres on 7 April at Pukekohe, with McNab aboard, and following
two preparatory trials she resumes in the $25,000 Rating 72 1200 metres.
Rewarded for consistency with two wins and five seconds from 12 starts, she has
placed on heavy and has good course form. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.
4.42 p.m. R9 2 Summer Monsoon (5 g Stratum - Princess Narine) - Michael McNab; produced a notable performance for fifth in the Rating 65 1300 metres on 21 August at Taupo, and contests the $22,500 Rating 65 1400 metres. He won fresh-up on Heavy10 last season at Ashburton, and the type to warrant each way consideration if he puts his best foot forward. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.75.
Randwick:
Weather: fine, track: Soft6, rail: out 8 metres. No rain forecast.
4.35 p.m. (NZ time) R5 3 Probabeel (3 f Savabeel - Far Fetched)
- James McDonald; spelled after getting home stylishly for a close fifth here
in the $1m Inglis
Sires' (Gr. 1, 1400m) on 6 April, and following two preparatory trials she
resumes in the $200,000 Darley Furious Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m). A nominee for
Champion Two-Year-Old, she killed them in the $1m Karaka Million (Restricted Listed, 1200m), is a
terrific filly, and a long odds second favourite behind Libertini (I Am
Invincible) at $1.20. Fixed odds: $13.00 & $2.15 NZ TAB.
6.30 p.m. (NZ time) R8 2 Te Akau Shark (5 g Rip Van Winkle - Bak
Da Chief) - James McDonald; ran the fastest 600m (35.7) on the day when closing
hard for second in the Foxbridge Plate (Gr. 2, 1200m) on 17 August at Te Rapa,
and having his first start abroad in the $200,000 Harvey Norman Tramway Stakes
(Gr. 2, 1400m). The winner of five from seven, including a six-length
demolition in the Coupland's Bakeries Mile (Gr. 2, 1600m), he handles give in
the ground and strongly fancied to perform well. Fixed odds: $2.50 & $1.30.
