Te Akau NZ Te Aroha Preview

Before we begin this preview, given the jumping races are the focus on the day, we thought we'd use this picture of our own Tom Hazlett winning the Wellington Hurdles on Counter Punch - brilliant horse and brilliant horseman Tommy!  It was great to see Tom working on Trackside for the 2013 running of that same race this weekend.

Te Akau New Zealand has one horse entered for the seven-race programme on Monday July 15 at Te Aroha.

As at 7:53am on Saturday July 13 the conditions were: overcast and Heavy11, rail out 9 metres.

1:18pm R2 3 Goosebumps (8 g Istidaad - Raewyn's Polly) - Shaun Phelan; is looking to get himself back on track for a shot at the 124th Grand National Hurdles (4200m) on Wednesday Aug. 7 at Riccarton, after a glitch in form last start at Hastings. A horse that prefers the most testing of going, he jumped proficiently near the pace and pleased in his previous start for fourth to Zenocoin on June 15 in the Manawatu Hurdles (2900m) at Awapuni, with this rider aboard, in his first jumping assignment this time in. A winner at the corresponding meeting last year in the Maiden Hurdles (3100m), he tackles the Open Hurdles (3100m) and strikes very heavy footing which he likes. The team has found no reason to doubt the horse since his last outing and look forward to him bouncing back.
