Te Akau NZ Te Rapa Preview
10 September, 2013
Te Akau New Zealand has seven horses entered during the eight-race programme on Wednesday September 11 at Te Rapa.
As at 8:17am on Tuesday 10 September the conditions were: fine and Slow8, rail out 8 metres.
12:40pm R1 6 Orinto (4 m Iffraaj - The Perfurme Garden) - Matt Cameron; resumes from a 70-day let up, having come off a similar break of 63-days to win her Maiden here on July 3 over 1400 metres on slow ground. Up in grade, but over the same trip, she will require some luck in running from the outside gate but receives footing to suit and boasts genuine qualities to go well again.
1:15pm R2 13 King's Rock (3 c Fastnet Rock - Nureyev's Girl) - Matt Cameron; makes his debut over 1400 metres after rounding off strongly for an authoritative trial win over 1000 metres on Aug. 27 at Te Teko. A magnificently built colt, with a lovely temperament, he is clicking on to his job as a racehorse and strips in beautiful condition to begin his career. He has the right man aboard to negate a wide draw and with a touch of luck in running should give a good account.
2:25pm R4 4 Secret Whisper (4 g Align - Danewhisper) - Michael Dee (a3); resumed from a freshen-up with a solid run for fourth on Aug. 28 in the Benchmark 75 1400 metres on slow/heavy ground at Matamata, with this rider aboard. Up to a mile from barrier three is ideal, as too the footing, and he has derived good benefit from his previous race.
3:00pm R5 7 Sing like Ella (4 m Danasinga - Fitzgeralda) - Michael Dee (a3); rounded off nicely for fourth after being trapped wide in a preparatory trial over 800 metres at Te Teko. She finished third on debut in September last year and claims to 54.5kgs resuming in the Maiden Fillies and Mares 1200 metres - one of two in the race for Te Akau.
3:00pm R5 9 Alchemy's Flight (3 f Darci Brahma - Eloa) - Matt Cameron; has looked good winning two preparatory trials and makes her debut from barrier ten. Her dam, Eloa (Volksraad), was impressive in each of her three wins, including a fresh up victory in the Highview Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) in September 2004. She has solid pointers for a bold start to her career.
3:35pm R6 9 Enhance (3 f Saperavi - Pinstinct) - Michael Dee (a3); began well to position third without cover, she was drawn wide in search of better footing on straightening and sustained a strong finish for second when trialling on Aug. 27 over 800 metres at Te Teko. Bred and owned by Karyn Fenton-Ellis, the team looks forward to her debut in the Maiden Fillies and Mares 1200 metres where she has the benefit of barrier two and a light weight.
4:45pm R8 3 Sunset Pass (5 g Yamanin Vital - Janet's Chance) - Matt Cameron; capitalized on a lovely ride to win off a 68-day let up on Aug. 19 in the Maiden 1800 metres at Taupo, and has done well in the interim ahead of the Benchmark 65 2100 metres. Able to find a nice position from barrier eight, he should again give a good account.
