Te Akau NZ Trans Tasman Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has ten horses racing on Saturday 19 September: Ruakaka, Hastings, and Royal Randwick (Sydney).

Ruakaka:

Weather: fine, track: Dead4, rail: out 6 metres. 5mls rain forecast Friday and showers Saturday.

2.58 p.m. R5 8 Awareness  (4 m Redoute's Choice - Aware) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); knuckled down for a debut win here over 1000 metres in December, with Burdan aboard, and resumes in the $22,500 Rating 65 1200 metres. Having trialled twice in preparation, she has the speed to get handy from barrier six and rates a top four chance. Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.80.

Hastings:

Weather: cloudy, track: Good3, rail: true. 7mls rain forecast Friday and 5mls Saturday.

12.55 p.m. R4 17 Top Brass  (5 g Epaulette - Highlight) - Matt Cameron; has won two from three, trialled well for second and first, respectively, and resumes in the $30,000 Rating 72 1300 metres. He has beaten good horses along the way, including subsequent Eulogy Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m) winner and Royal Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m) placed stable-mate Lilikoi (Charm Spirit), and rates a top three chance from barrier five. Fixed odds: $4.40 & $1.85.

1.30 p.m. R5 11 Vamos Bebe  (4 m I Am Invincible - Hurtle Myrtle) - Danielle Johnson; followed two seconds with an impressive victory over 1200 metres on 2 September at Avondale, and steps up in the $30,000 Special Conditions 1200 metres. A bit will depend on securing the right trip from barrier 11, but she appears ideally placed to threaten. Fixed odds: $2.20 & $1.30.

2.05 p.m. R6 5 Yourpoint  (3 g Bull Point - Dollhouse) - Danielle Johnson; was best late and through the line when resuming in the WRC Northland Breeders Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) on 5 September at Te Rapa, won impressively by stable-mate Need I Say More (No Nay Never), and contests the $50,000 El Roca - Sir Colin Meads Trophy (Listed, 1200m). He towelled his rivals on debut last December at Matamata, and rates a top three chance from barrier six. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.05.

2.40 p.m. R7 6 Burgundy Belle  (5 m Burgundy - Spin ‘N Grin) - Craig Grylls; was set to race prior to lockdown and trialled well in readiness to resume in the $30,000 Rating 82 1200 metres. Unwinding a terrific burst to win the Rating 72 1300 metres last season at Hastings, fresh-up, the winner of four from nine, plus second and three thirds, she has the clout to prove competitive from barrier six. Fixed odds: $4.50 & $1.80.

2.40 p.m. R7 10 Romantic Lady  (4 m Power - Romantic Time) - Danielle Johnson; showed plenty in nose defeat when resuming in the Rating 98 1200 metres on 8 August and tops again finishing second to Bavella (Snitzel) - contesting the Tarzino Trophy (Gr. 1, 1400m) - in the Rating 82 1200 metres on 5 September, both at Te Rapa. In great form, she rates a top three chance with a touch of luck from barrier eight. Fixed odds: $4.50 & $1.80.

3.15 p.m. R8 8 Miss Aotearoa  (3 f Per Incanto - Danex) - Craig Grylls; was unbeaten in four trials before providing trainer Jamie Richards with his first winner this season on 12 August in the 3YO 1100 metres at Taupo. A filly that uses herself well, she steps in class for the $70,000 Hawkes Bay Breeders' Gold Trail Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) and should prove competitive with the right trip from barrier 11. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.25.

3.50 p.m. R9 7 Savy Yong Blonk  (5 m Savabeel - Ampin) - Danielle Johnson; was strong late for fourth when second-up in the Rating 103 1400 metres on 5 September at Te Rapa, having resumed there over 1200 metres in August, and contests the $30,000 Open 1600 metres. She blitzed her rivals in the Royal Descent Stakes (Fillies & Mares, 1600m) on Auckland Cup Day (Mar. 3) at Ellerslie, following a terrific second in the City of Auckland Cup (Gr. 3, 2400m), and away well from barrier five should make her very competitive if appreciative of the course at her first attempt. Fixed odds: $4.60 & $1.90.

4.25 p.m. R10 8 Avantage (5 m Fastnet Rock - Asavant) - Danielle Johnson; commenced her five-year-old season with a typically tough as teak victory in the Foxbridge Plate (Gr. 2, 1200m) on 5 September at Te Rapa, and contests the $200,000 Tarzino Trophy (Gr. 1, 1400m). A quadruple Group 1 winner from 1200m - 2000m, and course winner at her only attempt, she has both immense talent and resolve that makes her hard to beat. Fixed odds: $1.85 & $1.25.

Randwick:

Weather: overcast, track: Good4, rail: true. Occasional showers forecast.

4.40 p.m. (NZ time) R5 5 Probabeel (4 m Savabeel - Far Fetched) - Kerrin McEvoy; resumed here in August with a slashing run for second in the Group 3 1200 metres, had a quiet trial on 8 September, and contests the $160,000 Bill Ritchie Handicap (Gr. 3, 1400m). She won the Surround Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) on the course in February and ideally drawn (4) to rate a top three chance. NZ TAB fixed odds: $2.90 & $1.40.
