Te Akau NZ Trials' Highlights

Te Akau trialled horses on Friday May 10 at Te Awamutu.

The footing was rated Slow8, with the rail out 8 metres.

Heat 11 Maiden 800 metres (neck, 1 ½ lengths 50.6)

Pride and Passion (4 m Encosta De Lago - Calaway Gal) - Daniel Miller; bided time second last, tracked into contention on the turn, through one off in straight and finished strongly while held together for close third.

Heat 14 Maiden 800 metres (head, 5 lengths 50.3)

Lucky Guy (3 g Lucky Unicorn - Giuliana) - Daniel Miller; travelled nicely in fourth, tracked up behind the two leaders in the straight and sustained his run for fourth.

Heat 15 2YO 1000 metres (neck, 2 lengths 1:03.2)

Aspen (2 c Alamosa - Kirin Belle) - Matt Cameron; settled nicely in fifth, improved to third on home turn and ran on strongly, in tight quarters, for close fifth.

Longbeach (2 c Fastnet Rock - Betwixt) - Opie Bosson; settled second last from a wide barrier, circled widest on the home turn and made up good ground for close sixth.

Heat 16 2YO 1000 metres (3 lengths, 1 ½ lengths 1:03.5)

Enhance (2 f Saperavi - Pinstinct) - Matt Cameron; steadied to sixth after being tightened soon after the start, pushed through to challenge the leader at the 400 metres and kept up a good gallop for third.

Heat 17 2YO 1000 metres (¾ lengths, ¾ lengths 1:04.6)

Hardcore Rock (2 c Fastnet Rock - River Dreaming) - Matt Cameron; began well to trail, tracked through nearer the rail on straightening, bumped 300 metres, changed ground and worked home in centre track for fifth.

Heat 18 2YO 1000 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 4 lengths 1:03.0)

King's Rock (2 c Fastnet Rock - Nureyev's Girl) - Matt Cameron; began well to co-lead on the inner, ran straight and true in the straight to finish second.

2 f Darci Brahma - Eloa - David Walsh; tracked wide in fifth from the outside draw and rounded off solidly for fourth.

Heat 19 Maiden 1000 metres (5 lengths, ¾ lengths 1:03.2)

Fast Fiction (3 g Fastnet Rock - Paperback) - Daniel Miller; began smartly to sit off a genuine pace in third and picked up strongly in the straight, under his own steam, for second.

Heat 28 Open 1150 metres (¾ lengths, 2 lengths 1:16.01)

Adalia (4 m Lucky Unicorn - Ajfan) - Daniel Miller; was outpaced as expected over the 1150 metres and followed them around with the light-weight apprentice aboard.

Polarity (5 g No Excuse Needed - Affirmed Lane) - Matt Cameron; tailed off early over the short trip, but made good ground in the straight. Rain coming down made the footing too testing for him.

Heat 29 Maiden 1580 metres (4 lengths, 8 lengths 1:46.2)

3 f High Chaparral - Landara - David Walsh; jumped away to settle handy to the pace throughout, on the inner, angled to centre track on straightening and ran home strongly for second.
