Te Akau NZ Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday October 29 at Te Aroha.


The footing was rated Good3, with the rail out 10 metres


Heat 1 2YO 650 metres (3 lengths, 10 lengths 38.3)


Brochaine (2 c Pins - Lowland) - Matt Cameron (below); jumped out well to track in third and ran on, while finding the sprint trip for too short in his first trial.


Archie2


Heat 2 2YO 650 metres (2 ¼ lengths, 4 lengths 39.4)


Frock (2 f Road to Rock - Mya) - Matt Cameron; settled last of five off the outside gate and held her position through the straight, in her first trial.


Heat 3 2YO 650 metres (head, ¾ lengths 38.4)


Red Carpet (2 f Pins - Promenade) - Mick Dee; travelled handily in third, quickened when asked to extend at the 200 metres and displayed a good action running through the line strongly for second, in her first trial.


2 g Mastercraftsman - Velvet and Satin - Matt Cameron (below); settled back on the inside and made ground near the rail for fourth, in his first trial.

Heat 4 2YO 650 metres (1 ½ lengths, head 38.7)


Bordeaux (2 c High Chaparral - Our Echezeaux) - Matt Cameron (below); began well to co-lead on the inner and ran on to finish fourth while finding the sprint trip for too short, in his first trial.

Heat 5 2YO 800 metres (head, 2 lengths 47.9)


2 f Any Suggestion - Spanish Lullaby - Mick Dee (below); jumped out well to lead, steadied to trail at the 600 metres and tracked up nicely behind the leader, showing a good action, to finish third.

Heat 6 2YO 800 metres (3 ½ lengths, neck 47.1)


2 f Encosta De Lago - Mexican Rose - Mick Dee (below); began swiftly from the outside to cross and lead before the home turn. Well-balanced against the rail in the run home, she quickened clear to display a very good action and win easily.

Heat 7 2YO 800 metres (head, ½ a length 48.1)


Secret Spice (2 f Sakhee's Secret - Caparison) - Matt Cameron; showed good gate speed to lead near the rail on a competitive pace and ran home strongly, showing a good action, under minimal urging to finish close up in fourth.


Heat 9 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (dead-heat, l length 47.4)


Flying Therese (3 f Flying Spur - St. Therese) - Matt Cameron (below); began well before steadying to midfield on the inner and showed a good action in finishing behind the body of the field, under minimal urging.

Heat 13 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (neck, l length 47.6)


3 f Zabeel - Thistle Cove - Mick Dee (below); began well to travel third in tight quarters and ranged into the clear on straightening. She showed determination in the run home to finish close up in fourth and ran on nicely through the line.

Heat 14 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (head, 1 ¼ lengths 47.9)


3 f Volksraad - Rapida - Matt Cameron; travelled comfortably three back on the inner, tracked up behind runners in the straight and worked home nicely under minimal urging for fifth.


Heat 15 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (neck, 2 lengths 47.4)


3 g King's Chapel - Effortlessly - Mick Dee (below); began well to lead, held together in front, quickened when asked at the 300 metres and ran home strongly to win. He showed good manners and tractability in the trial.


Dexter2


3 g Strada - Show ‘Em Girl - Matt Cameron; settled towards the back of the field and ran on without making a lot of ground over the short distance.


Heat 16 Open 1000 metres (neck, 1 ¼ lengths 59.1)


Riverenza (4 m King's Chapel - Sea Rhythm) - Mick Dee (below); worked forward near the rail to fifth on a competitive pace and although finishing back in the field she fought well in a smart line-up.


Ruby2


Heat 17 Open 1000 metres (2 lengths, 2 lengths 58.5)


Stylee (4 m Pins - Arletty) - Matt Cameron; missed the start and tailed the eight horse field. In a heat where positions never changed, she still ran through the line nicely at the back.


Heat 20 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (head, ¾ length 59.2)


3 g Keeper - Alicante Bouchet - Mick Dee; got back off the outside gate and never really appeared to appreciate the good going.


Heat 21 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (½ a length, ¾ lengths 60.3)


3 g Guillotine - Greta Hall - Matt Cameron (below); raced three wide in the open on the pace and although tending to get her head up in the run home she still proved too strong in winning.


GRETA!


Heat 22 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (3 lengths, 2 lengths 59.2)


Highly Likely (3 g High Chaparral - Starrinka) - Matt Cameron; got back in the field from a wide draw and was unable to make ground over the short distance.


Heat 23 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (head, 2 lengths 60.4)


Maestro (3 g Encosta De Lago - Miss Scarlatti) - Mick Dee (below); was back in running, improved off the rail passing the 600 metres and while unable to quicken up over the short trip he worked home in staying fashion.


Pharo2


Heat 24 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (8 lengths, head 59.7)


Natalie (3 f Minstrel Court - Nat the Brat) - Matt Cameron; jumped away well to find a nice position in fourth and fought on strongly before inconvenienced by a wayward horse and fallen jockey at the 150 metres.


Heat 30 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres (neck, 1 ¾ lengths 1:13.62)


3 g Duke of Marmalade - Frescante - Matt Cameron; settled seventh on the inner, standing the leader six lengths passing the 600 metres. He tracked up off the rail on straightening, found clear galloping room at the 200m and finished strongly for second.
