Te Akau NZ Weekend Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the nine race programme at Tauranga, and one horse on the nine race programme at Riccarton, Saturday 11 April.

Tauranga:

As on Friday April 10 the conditions were: overcast and Slow8, rail out 1.5 metres.

3.05 p.m. R6 3 Highly Likely (4 g High Chaparral - Starrinka) - Leith Innes; was urged along on the good footing, making inroads from last when resuming last Monday in the Rating 75 1600 metres at Ellerslie. Stepping to 2100 metres on rain-affected going is right up his alley. He has included two wins and two seconds from only six starts and combined with this rider to finish second over 2000 metres in October last year at Matamata.

5.00 p.m. R9 13 Sonsy (3 f Thorn Park - Flowing) - Cameron Lammas; has been freshened since a solid effort in the Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (Gr. 2, 2000m) on Feb. 7 at Te Rapa, and resumes in the Rating 65 1400 metres. Two starts ago she exuded her quality when beating Aotearower (Shamardal) as the pair drew clear over 1600 metres, run in a solid 1:34.9, at Matamata. Genuine in her endeavour, she brings the right form to prove very competitive.

Riccarton:

As on Friday April 10 the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail out 5 metres.

3.46 p.m. R7 3 No Tricks (3 f Savabeel - Mezaire) - Matt Cameron; got going late for fourth to Vespa (Elusive City) in the Wellington Guineas (Gr. 2, 1400m) on March 14 at Trentham, having made very good headway from last when finishing fourth to Passing Shot (Swiss Ace) prior in the Mr Tiz Trophy (Gr. 3, 1200m) at Ellerslie. Stepping up in distance for the New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes (Listed, 1600m) should suit and she is ideally drawn in barrier seven. She never turned a hair on the midweek trip south, should prove tough providing she appreciates the course and although meeting a good field she boasts the right form to warrant favouritism.
