Te Akau NZ Weekend Preview
8 April, 2016
Te Akau New Zealand has two horses racing at two venues on Saturday 9 April.
Te Aroha:
As on Friday 8 April the conditions were: cloudy and Dead4, rail true.
4.25 p.m. R8 1 Abidewithme (6 m Redoute's Choice - Crimson) - Grant Cooksley; finished fifth when second up over a mile on 19 March at Bendigo, and returned to the stables recently in preparation for the $200,000 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m). With eight wins from twenty eight starts and $314,000 in prize money, she staged a massive performance for third in the corresponding race last year and drawn wide will look to track a similar path from back in the field.
Trentham:
As on Friday 8 April the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail out 3 metres.
3.02 p.m. R5 3 Chambord (5 g Zabeel - Miss Montjeu) - Chris Johnson; has been given time since closing in for second to Overtheriver (Mettre En Jeu) in quick time (1:20.7) over 1400 metres at Awapuni, and loved his work on Thursday ahead of the $30,000 Open 1600 metres. The $2.40 fixed odds favourite in a field of seven, with Savaria (Savabeel) $2.70, appears an accurate assessment.
