Te Akau NZ Weekend Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the ten-race premier programme at Trentham, and two on the seven-race card at Ruakaka, Saturday July 13.

Trentham:

As at 7:50am on Thursday July 11 the conditions were: overcast and Heavy11, rail out 10 metres.

12:45pm R4 4 Fast Fiction (3 g Fastnet Rock - Paperback) - Hayden Tinsley; displayed pace and power off the front when recording an emphatic five-length debut victory on June 6 in Maiden 3YO 1100 metres on Heavy10 footing at New Plymouth. Given a 37-day reprieve since, he contests the Special Conditions 1200 metres. He has shown to relish the wettest footing in track work and should cope with what could be one of the most testing tracks seen so far this winter.

3:41pm R9 9 Thrive (5 m Colombia - Trove) - Buddy Lammas; was dictated to race on the inside from barrier one which worked against her on June 15 in the Open Handicap 1600 metres on Heavy11 at Ellerslie. In the time-honoured Whyte Handicap (1600m), she is ideally drawn off the fence in barrier eight and she struck good form at a similar time last season.

Ruakaka:

As at 9:23am on Wednesday July 10 the conditions were: showery and Dead6, rail out 5 metres.

1:02pm R2 4 All Decked Out (2 c Darci Brahma - Diamond Deck) - Matt Cameron; makes his debut from barrier eight in the 2YO 1200 metres. A strong and athletic type, from the impressive Highview Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) winning filly Diamond Deck (Octagonal), he is from the family of Lonhro (Octagonal) and Niello (Octagonal). One of three in the field yet to race, he will obviously take experience from the outing but does possess the ability and professionalism to be a factor.

1:39pm R3 9 Urban Angel (4 m Savabeel - Tutuland) - Matt Cameron; returns to the venue of her last start win on June 29 in the Benchmark 65 1600 metres on Dead6 footing. Up in grade and distance for the Benchmark 75 2100 metres, she meets two or three with solid credentials but barrier three is going to ensure she has every opportunity.

Bet of the week: Urban Angel
