Te Akau NZ Weekend Preview
25 November, 2016
Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing at two venues on Saturday 26 November.
Ellerslie (twilight meeting):
As on Friday 25 November the conditions were: overcast and Good2, rail out 3 metres. 8mls rain forecast Friday, 1ml race day.
4.11 p.m. R3 2 Chambord (6 g Zabeel - Miss Montjeu) - Sam Weatherley (a2); trialled very well for third over 935 metres at Cambridge, and resumes off 215 days in the $30,000 Rating 85 1100 metres. A talented galloper at best, in a career interspersed with injury, he is sure to improve with the run. Giving weight to some capable rivals, relief to 59kgs helps the cause and having won twice over 1200 metres should have him in the mix. Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.70.
5.24 p.m. R5 12 Princess Davone (4 m Iffraaj - Nikey Davone) - Matt Cameron; resumed with a very good victory in the Rating 75 1200 metres on Dead6 at Pukekohe, and remains in the same grade to contest the $25,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. Up in weight to 56.5kgs, after carrying 50kg when guided to victory by stable apprentice Jasmine Fawcett, she placed in five stakes' races as a three-year-old and barrier two is a big advantage at her first course attempt.
5.24 p.m. R5 15 Vinevale (4 m Flying Spur - Eden Valley) - Danielle Johnson; another having her first course attempt, she worked home belatedly for third when resuming in the Rating 75 1200 metres at Avondale. Stepping to 1400 metres looks ideal, as is barrier four, and the horse and rider combination recorded an impressive three-length win in April at Te Aroha.
Wanganui:
As on Friday 25 November the conditions were: overcast and Dead5, rail out true. 2mls rain forecast Friday, 5mls race day.
1.30 p.m. R3 5 Royal Success (4 g Savabeel - Royal Show) - Jonathan Riddell; ended his previous campaign with a hat-trick of wins, all on slow ground, and following two solid trials he resumes off 168 days in the $22,500 Rating 75 1340 metres. Barrier two and this rider, mixed with three wins from four starts, has plenty of appeal, and if I Am Poppy (I Am Invincible) starts favourite he can give them a shake at a nice price.
2.40 p.m. R5 8 Shocking Luck (3 g Shocking - Shamardal Luck) - Jonathan Riddell; worked through the line solidly for fourth to winning stable-mate King Kane (Showcasing) in the Maiden 1600 metres on 6 November at Hastings, after finding the line for sixth on debut in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres at Ruakaka. His dam, Shamardal Luck (Shamardal), won over 2100 metres and stepping up in distance looks ideal in the Maiden 2040 metres.
3.54 p.m. R7 1 Sebrose (6 g Sebring - Bramble Rose) - Jasmine Fawcett (a4); returning for a cups' campaign after winning five races and $400,000 when trained by Mark Walker in Singapore, he resumes off 195 days in the $25,000 Rating 1590 metres. The highest rated in the field, weight relief eases the burden to 59.5kgs and this appears an ideal venture to bring him on for further assignments.
