Te Akau NZ Weekend Preview
Date: 1 Nov 2013
Te Akau New Zealand has one horse entered during the eight-race programme at Tauranga, and three on the nine-race card at Awapuni, Saturday November 2.
Tauranga:
As at 8:08am on Friday Nov. 1 the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail true.
4:53pm R7 8 Stanica Star (7 g Danzero - Stanica) - Mick Dee (a3); has come from off the pace with strong finishes to win two preparatory trials and resumes from barrier two in the Benchmark 75 1400 metres, claiming three-kilos to 54.5kgs. He won off a very similar break fresh-up in his last campaign and strips in the right condition to produce a bold performance.
Awapuni:
As at 8:35am on Friday Nov. 1 the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail true.
1:43pm R2 14 Jewels Gift (3 f Stravinsky - Jesmonds Gift) - Matt Cameron; led and fought hard for second to Telepathic, narrowly beaten since at Ellerslie, resuming on Oct. 7 over 1200 metres on good footing at Avondale. Having come on for the run, she appears nicely placed to threaten from barrier four over 1300 metres.
2:51pm R4 18 Osmunda (3 f O'Reilly - Wyndam Special) - Matt Cameron; settled beyond midfield off a wide gate and circling from the 600 metres she sustained a big run for second when debuting on Oct. 7 over 1400 metres on good footing at Avondale. Up to a mile, she will again be ridden quietly from an outside barrier and can force the issue if able to reproduce.
5:06pm R8 15 Thrive (6 m Colombia - Trove) - Matt Cameron; made good ground from last when closing the margin to 4.2 lengths in the weight-for-age Spring Classic (Gr. 1, 2040m) at Hastings. Prior to, she powered clear on slow footing to easily win the Merial Metric Mile (Gr. 3, 1600m) here on Sept. 14. Recent form sees her rate a top contender in Feilding Gold Cup (Listed, 2100m). From barrier nine in an even field, a gun ride can have her right in the mix.
Bet of the day: Jewels Gift
