Te Akau Pukekohe Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has two horses entered on Wednesday 22 March at Pukekohe.

Weather: overcast, track: Soft6, rail: out 7 metres. 7mls rain forecast Tuesday and no rain Wednesday.

2:03 p.m. R3 7 Quintessa (2 f Shamus Award - Chaquinta) - Opie Bosson; she was caught three wide but quickened for a stylish win in a trial on 7 March at Rotorua, and debuts in the $20,000 Maiden 2YO 1200 metres. By Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winning three-year-old Shamus Award, she is out of a High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells) mare that won five races from 2000m - 2700m in Australia. While breeding suggests she will get further, an emulation of her recent trial would rate her a top three chance.

4:59 p.m. R8 10 Rip Van Gogh (5 g Rip Van Winkle - On the Move) - Joe Doyle; got back from his outside gate (14) before circling with resolute effort for fifth in the Rating 60 1600 metres last Wednesday at Matamata, and contests the $20,000 Rating 60 1400 metres. He is ideally drawn (3) to race well in an even field.
