Te Akau Pukekohe Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has five horses entered on Wednesday 1 April at Pukekohe.

Pukekohe:

Weather: cloudy, track: Heavy10, rail: out 7 metres. No rain forecast.

12:05 p.m. R1 4 Centurial (3 g Savabeel – Purcentage) – Craig Grylls; he sustained a big run from back in the field, running the fastest last 600m (33.7) for fifth in the Maiden 1200 metres here on 13 March, with Grylls aboard, and contests the $25,000 Maiden 1400 metres. With the fastest last 600m for fifth in each of two races so far, he looks a top three chance from barrier one. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.70.

2:02 p.m. R4 13 Passion ‘N’ Pride (3 f Darci Brahma – Sweet Hunter) – Michael McNab; she has been freshened since closing solidly for second in the Maiden 1600 metres on 19 January at Wanganui, and ran home fine over a sprint distance for fifth in a trial on 17 March at Taupo. Resuming in the $25,000 Maiden 2YO & Up 1600 metres, her dam Sweet Hunter (Swiss Ace) won twice over 1400 metres, and she shapes to race well with a decent trip from barrier eight. Fixed odds: $3.80 & $1.65.

2:37 p.m. R5 12 Fortune Cookie (3 f Proisir – Savsensation) – Craig Grylls; she raced a touch awkwardly over the concluding stages in the Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1400 metres on 11 March at Matamata, and contests the $25,000 Maiden 2YO & Up 1600 metres. She ran home well for sixth when debuting over 1600 metres here on 25 February, and receives opportunity to improve from barrier three. Fixed odds: $4.50 & $1.85.

4:59 p.m. R9 1 Carsolio (3 g Bivouac – Whitehaven) – Hayley Hassman (a2); he fought hard in the fastest last 600m (34.7) for second in the Rating 65 1100 metres on 22 February at Taupo, and was only claimed near the line when second after leading in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 11 March at Matamata. Racing well, he has finished first and second on heavy ground previously, has weight relief to 57.5kg, and rates a top three chance in the $25,000 Rating 65 1200 metres - one of two in the event for the stable. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.20.

4:59 p.m. R9 7 Shiatsu (4 m Swiss Ace – Perform A Miracle) – Opie Bosson; she circled widest into the straight and remained unpressured running home in a trial on 3 March at Taupo. Resuming in the $25,000 Rating 65 1200 metres, she has looked solid through the trials’ stage prior to racing, was a debut winner on the poly-track, but much depends on how she copes with the conditions. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.35.
