Te Akau Pukekohe Preview
26 January, 2018
Te Akau New Zealand has three horses racing on Friday 26 January at Pukekohe.
As on Thursday 25 January the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail true. 1.5mls rain forecast race day.
2.44 p.m. R5 6 Swing Note (3 f Encosta De Lago - Andallthatjazz) - Michael McNab; recorded a polished win, third in the Zacinto Stakes (Listed, 1600m), and notable fifth in the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), in November, at Riccarton. Spelled since, with a NZ Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) campaign in mind, she is ready to resume in the $25,000 3YO 1400 metres. Drawn the outside (8), she should be finding the line solidly and has the quality to rate an each way chance.
3.54 p.m. R7 9 Imperium (6 g Encosta De Lago - Ethereal) - Michael McNab; registered a fresh-up win and second in the Metropolitan Trophy (Listed, 2500m), during another successful spring campaign in the South Island, culminating with a notable fifth in the New Zealand Cup (Gr. 3, 3200m) in November at Riccarton. Resuming off 69 days in the $35,000 Open 1600 metres, he boasts a solid distance record and although out of his grade (78) can produce a cheeky first up performance.
4.24 p.m. R8 11 Tavis Star (6 m Tavistock - Megapins) - Tegan Newman (a3); followed a strong rails run for second in the Rating 70 1400 metres on 15 December at Tauranga, finding the line for fifth in the Rating 75 1400 metres on 7 January at Awapuni, both with Newman aboard. She meets a strong field in the $25,000 Rating 75 1600 metres, but has the advantage of weight relief to 51kgs and a good draw (4).
