Te Akau Pukekohe Sunday Preview
7 April, 2019
Te Akau New Zealand has five horses racing on Sunday 7 April at Pukekohe.
As on Saturday 6 April the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail out 6 metres from 500m to winning post, remainder out 4 metres. 5mls rain forecast Saturday, showers Sunday morning.
12.05 p.m. R1 5 Blitzabeel (2 f Savabeel - Cape Mapperley) - Craig Grylls; won her first trial under a hold in February at Te Aroha, and polished when winning her second on 19 March at Matamata. On debut in the $10,000 2YO 800 metres, she has shown a naturalness to perform and meets a field largely unexposed on race day but some with winning trial form.
12.35 p.m. R2 4 Golden Age (3 g Savabeel - La Belle Epoque) - Craig Grylls; followed two close seconds with an unlucky fourth in the Maiden 1600 metres on 15 March at Te Aroha, closing off solidly after a bad check mid-straight. Stepping up in distance for the first time in the $10,000 3YO 2100 metres, he meets a couple that have already won over ground but appears suited himself and should go well.
2.15 p.m. R5 5 Pacific Coast (4 g Snitzel - Malibu Road) - Craig Grylls; made it three wins from eight starts with victory in the Rating 72 1200 metres here on 5 December and freshened following a fifth at his next start. He has trialled well for third and second, respectively, and ideally drawn (3) to rate a top four chance in the $11,000 Rating 72 1200 metres.
3.27 p.m. R7 3 Richard of Yorke (7 g Oasis Dream - Cascata) - Anna Jones; was denied room on a couple of occasions during a spring campaign at Riccarton, and spelled after contesting the New Zealand Cup (Gr. 3, 3200m) in November. With two trials under his belt, he resumes in the $11,000 Rating 72 1600 metres. A winner over 2400 metres at Royal Ascot, Sandown, and Randwick, he is destined to step up in distance and a good performance would set him up.
3.27 p.m. R7 9 Miss Scandinavia (4 m Smart Missile - Miss Helsinki) - Michael McNab; was beautifully ridden to win the Rating 65 1600 metres on 27 March at Matamata, and steps in grade for the Rating 72 1600 metres. Meeting a strong field, she is not without ability to measure up in this grade and ideally drawn in barrier four.
