There is nothing quite like horse racing to really excite your life. On Saturday morning Karyn, Mark Walker and I were up at 4.30am - Karyn was going to take us to Auckland airport on her way to the Trackside studio.

The plane took off on time and the trip went well ... we were just about to land at Brisbane airport and all of a sudden I started getting texts ... not one or two but many and I thought 'gee what has happened?' (hmmmm you didn't have your phone on did you??? - Ed).

As soon as we landed I couldn't wait to see what all the commotion was about and for the next 24 hours I honestly thought we had won a Group 1 race.

I was just so thrilled to read that Steve and Jamie had just won their first race for the new training partnership and a stakes' race at that!!  Jamie was just over the moon as were Mark and I and we went and celebrated with a great lunch yesterday at our favourite restaurant on the Gold Coast - Omeros Brothers.

In the travelling team (a.k.a. Boys' Brigade - Ed) this year is Dave Hurst, Stephen 'Rambo' Ramsay, Ian Farrelly, Joe Walls, Mark and Jamie and me.

We actually had two runners in on Saturday and just as we were coming off the plane, Ian and I were listening to our runner Tavi's Star at Ellerslie.  Funnily enough Ian had a horse in the same race and you wouldn't believe it but we quinella-ed it with Ian's horse that he races with his sister winning and we ran second.  So ALMOST two wins from two starters.

After lunch yesterday we came back to our apartment to watch the Singapore races and Mark won yet another race and continues to lead the Trainers' Premiership.

Today we are out at the sales looking at the yearlings and tomorrow the sales start.  This is a sale from which I have bought some top horses - such as Integrate, Tell A Tale, Costa Viva and Princess Coup.  It was fantastic to also see Princess Coup's son Thewizardofoz win so brilliantly at Sha Tin last night.

If you would like to be part of a Te Akau yearling purchase from the Gold Coast then please give me a call - 021 925 151 or call Karyn on 07 825 4701 or drop her an email [email protected].
