Te Akau Riccarton Friday Preview

Te Akau Racing has nine horses entered on Friday 12 July at Riccarton.

Riccarton:

Weather: cloudy, track: poly track, rail: true.

12:05 p.m. R2 3 Moon Rocket (3 g Merchant Navy – Moon Lover) – Warren Kennedy; he remained back and wide on Heavy8 footing in the Maiden 1200 metres on 22 June at Tauranga, and is one of two stablemates to contest the $22,000 Maiden 1200 metres. His dam won 10 times to 1200 metres in Australia, and he has produced solid efforts on better ground so has the opportunity to improve if appreciative of the poly track at his first attempt.

12:05 p.m. R2 6 Not Straight Laced (3 f Turn Me Loose – Clos De Tart) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); she continued her good form when finishing second in the Maiden 1200 metres here on 27 June, at her first attempt on the poly track, and likewise contests the $22,000 Maiden 1200 metres. She is racing well and rates a top three chance if she can secure a decent trip from her wide draw (11).

12:38 p.m. R3 3 Time Is King (3 g Darci Brahma – Tiffany’s Time) – Ashvin Goindasamy; after leading, he held off challengers to win the Maiden 1600 metres here (poly track) on 27 June, also with Goindasamy aboard, and steps in class for the $22,000 3YO 1400 metres. One of two for the team in the race, he has continued to improve prior to winning and is ideally drawn (3) to race well again.

12:38 p.m. R3 6 Mitre Peak (3 f More Than Ready – Liten Prinsessa) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); she won the Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1200 metres (eligible $26,000 bonuses) on 31 May and finished a close third in the 3YO 1400 metres on 13 June, both here on poly track. She presents as a top three chance in the $22,000 3YO 1400 metres.

2:20 p.m. R6 6 Hayate (5 m Maurice – Vamoose) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); she did well for sixth after being slowly away in the Rating 65 1600 metres here (poly track) on 27 June, and contests the $32,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. She won a Rating 60 2000 metres in May at Cambridge (poly track), is going well, and has first four prospects from barrier three.

2:55 p.m. R7 2 Sorcha (4 m Burgundy – Niamh Elizabeth) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); she capped good form when drawing away to win stylishly by two lengths in the Rating 84 1400 metres here on 13 June (poly track), and contests the $32,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. Back in grade but up in weight, 54kg to 57.5kg, she brings a very good record on poly track including three wins from six starts, and looks a definite top three chance.

3:27 p.m. R8 5 Angels Wings (4 m Heroic Valour – Gowana) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); she worked forward outside the leader when finishing seventh in the Rating 65 1200 metres here (poly track) on 27 June, and os one of two stablemates contesting the $32,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. She has been course/distance placed in her prior two starts, the blinkers are on, and she is capable of proving competitive if she has the rub of the green from a wide draw (12).

3:27 p.m. R8 6 French Rose (4 m Burgundy – Paraiba) – Warren Kennedy; she was held up near the rail when finishing fifth in the Rating 65 1200 metres here (poly track) on 27 June, and also contests the $32,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. She finished solidly for second in the Rating 65 1200 metres here (poly track) prior on 13 June, has good poly track form, and is perfectly drawn (3) to rate a top three chance.

4:01 p.m. R9 6 Star In The Sky (4 m Savabeel – Pikari Star) – Niranjan Parmar (a1); she raced away to win (3.5 lengths) the Rating 65 & Jumpers 2200 metres here (poly track) on 27 June, and contests the $32,000 Rating 75 2200 metres. She faces a stiffer task up in grade for this assignment, but won in an easy manner last start and rates a top three chance from barrier one.
