Te Akau Rotorua Midweek Preview
3 December, 2024
Te Akau Racing has three horses entered for the twilight meeting on Wednesday 4 December at Rotorua.
Rotorua:
Weather: cloudy, track: Soft6, rail: out 5 metres. No rain forecast.
3:55 p.m. R3 4 Cognoscenti (3 g Castelvecchio – Irish Goodbye) – Wiremu Pinn; he was fourth on the outer, ranged three-wide turning for home, and finished strongly to win a trial on 18 November at Waipa. Resuming in the $25,000 Maiden 1230 metres, he raced in good fields during his three starts as two-year-old, and he is ideally drawn (3) to race well first-up. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.70.
4:30 p.m. R4 1 Colonel Warden (3 g Russian Revolution – Moralto) – Wiremu Pinn; he was fourth on the outer, went clear to challenge on straightening, and quickened very well to win a trial on 18 November at Waipa, also with Pinn aboard. Resuming in the $25,000 Maiden 3YO 1230 metres, he produced a very good debut effort for third to stable-mate Discretion Rules (Alabama Express) in the Listed Champagne Stakes over 1200m last season, and appears to have top three credentials. Fixed odds: $2.40 & $1.30.
6:23 p.m. R7 11 Lady Of Court (4 m Savabeel – Are There Any) – Wiremu Pinn; she tracked the first three on the outer, ranged up rounding home turn, and finished a close second in a trial on 18 November at Waipa. Resuming in the $25,000 Rating 65 1400 metres, she looked good winning a Maiden 1400 metres last season. She is a half-sister to eight-time winner and former stable-mate Challa (Dissident), and is the type to perform well fresh-up but does need luck from her wide draw (11). Fixed odds: $9.50 & $3.10.
