Te Akau Rotorua Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has five horses entered for the seven race programme on Friday 1 April at Rotorua.

As on Thursday 31 March the conditions were: fine and Slow8, rail true.

12.23 p.m. R1 6 Carmenize (3 f Any Suggestion - Zevita) - Cameron Lammas; sustained a big run from last to finish third in the Maiden 1200 metres on Good3 footing at Wairoa, and jumps from barrier three in the Maiden 1215 metres. She worked well on Tuesday and trialled well on both slow and heavy footing.

12.58 p.m. R2 3 Herschal (3 g Savabeel - Starring) - Mark Du Plessis; made good inroads from last to finish fifth when resuming in the Maiden 1200 metres on Dead4 footing at Te Aroha, with this rider aboard, and expected to appreciate stepping to 1400 metres. He handled some cut in the track when trialling and rates an each way chance from barrier two.

2.43 p.m. R5 5 Tatters (3 f Tavistock - Rattle) - Michael Coleman; did a good job from well back in the field for fifth when resuming in the Rating 65 1200 metres on Dead4 footing at Te Aroha, and trained on accordingly. She won second up in her last campaign over 1200 metres on Slow8 footing at Te Rapa, with this rider aboard, and appears a genuine threat in the Rating 65 1215 metres.

2.43 p.m. R5 6 Stella Di Paco (3 f Paco Boy - Savabeel Star) - Cameron Lammas; peaked on her run after racing handy when resuming in the Rating 65 1200 metres on Good3 footing at Avondale. As a two-year-old, she won the Castletown Stakes (Listed, 1200m) on Slow7 footing and can improve sharply.

3.16 p.m. R6 6 Beacon of Hope (3 g Fastnet Rock - Randaroo) - Matt Cameron; missed the start by five lengths before staging an enormous run for second when resuming in the Rating 75 1200 metres on Good2 footing at Hawera, and steps up to 1400 metres. He was a course/distance winner on Dead4 footing with this jockey aboard and rates an each way chance in quite a smart field.
