Te Akau Rotorua Sunday Preview

Te Akau Racing has 11 horses entered on Sunday 16 October at Rotorua.

Weather: cloudy, track: Heavy9, rail: true. No rain forecast.

1:20 p.m. R1 1 Kabugee (3 g Satono Aladdin - Kabuki) - Opie Bosson; he followed a smart trial win with an impressive debut victory over 1000 metres in January at Te Aroha, and trialled twice in preparation to resume in the $30,000 3YO 1215 metres. Has shown to act in a fresh state and rates a top three chance. Fixed odds: $1.90 & $1.10.

1:20 p.m. R1 3 Stonybreck (3 g Tavistock - Fair Isle) - Lisa Allpress; he was denied room when a close sixth in the 3YO 1200 metres on 30 September at Te Rapa, and also contests the $30,000 3YO 1215 metres. All four performances have contained merit and he rates a top three chance from barrier three. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.35.

1:55 p.m. R2 1 Espionage (4 g Savabeel - Bayrock) - Opie Bosson; he finished strongly for second to stable-mate Hero Worship (Xtravagant) when resuming in the Maiden 1200 metres on 7 September and was then fifth in the Rating 60 1200 metres on 21 September, both at Matamata. He presents as a first three prospect from barrier one in the $15,000 Maiden 1400 metres. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.80

1:55 p.m. R2 10 Savoir Faire (3 g Savabeel - Etiquette) - Michael McNab; he got home well for third on debut in the Maiden 1200 metres on 21 September at Matamata, won by stable-mate Kai (Iffraaj). Suited by increased distance in the $15,000 Maiden 1400 metres, he can deliver a first three finish but requires luck from barrier nine. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.50.

3:05 p.m. R4 13 She's A Showoff (4 m Showcasing - Que Sera) - Lisa Allpress; she followed two fourth's with sustained gallop to win the Rating 65 1200 metres on 25 September at Tauranga, running the fastest last 600m (36.5) on the day. She also clocked the fastest 600m (34.5) when second here in April at her only course attempt, drops in weight to carry 54kg, and rates a top three chance from her handy draw (2) in the $30,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.

3:40 p.m. R5 2 Brando (5 g Savabeel - Saoirse) - Opie Bosson; he was given time (57 days) since disappointing fresh-up in August at Ruakaka, but looked good getting home for third in a trial on 27 September at Waipa, and resumes in the $85,000 Sweynesse Stakes (Gr. 3, 1215m). Ideally drawn (4), he is a stakes' winner, twice Group One placed, and has the class to match them. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.40.

4:15 p.m. R6 10 Kai (4 m Ocean Park - Brilliant Blush) - Opie Bosson; she capped six second's from seven starts with a well deserved, stylish victory in the Maiden 1200 metres on 21 September at Matamata, and steps up in the $30,000 Rating 65 1215 metres. Given a confidence building win, she rates a top three chance - one of three in the race for the team. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.65.

4:15 p.m. R6 12 Hayate (4 m Maurice - Vamoose) - Craig Grylls; she was given time (53 days) since finishing back when resuming in the Rating 65 1300 metres, won by stable-mate Outfit (Tivaci), in August at Taupo, and has since trialled on 27 September at Waipa. She showed natural ability when winning on debut in May at Matamata, and receives the opportunity to improve from barrier three in the $30,000 Rating 65 1215 metres. Fixed odds: $21.00 & $6.00.

4:15 p.m. R6 13 Polly Plum (4 m Xtravagant - Herstory) - Lisa Allpress; she got back from her tricky draw (12) and closed the margin nicely when resuming in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 30 September at Te Rapa, and contests the $30,000 Rating 65 1215 metres. She ran the fastest last 600m (34.1) when winning off the front over 1300 metres in January, and is capable of figuring in the finish with luck from draw (9). Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.80.

4:50 p.m. R7 9 Aromatic (6 m Sacred Falls - Vickezzchardonnay) - Craig Grylls; she continued good form with a brave second to subsequent Group One placed (and now winner) Mustang Valley (Vanbrugh) in the Metric Mile (Gr. 3, 1550m) on 24 September at Awapuni, and contests the $65,000 Staphanos Classic (Listed, 1950m). At her only course attempt, she won her Maiden effortlessly over 1400 metres and has the right credentials to rate a top three proposition from barrier one. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.70.

4:50 p.m. R7 13 Soprano Supreme (5 m Contributer - Falsetto) - Joe Kamaruddin; got home well from last when resuming in the Rating 75 1400 metres on 27 August at Te Rapa, but remained back in the Rating 75 1600 metres on 24 September at Ruakaka. Unbeaten in two course attempts, after back-to-back victories to 2200 metres in March/April, she receives opportunity to improve in the $65,000 Staphanos Classic (Listed, 1950m). Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.
