Te Akau Ruakaka Midweek Preview
9 February, 2022
Te Akau Racing has nine horses entered on Wednesday 9 February at Ruakaka.
Weather: cloudy, track: Dead5, rail: true. 5mls rain forecast Wednesday.
12:23 p.m. R1 6 Skew Wiff (2 f Savabeel - Starvoia) - Opie Bosson; travelled behind the pack, and was five lengths off the leaders at the 600m before closing late for fifth when debuting in a Maiden 2YO 1000 metres on 3 January at Te Aroha, won by stable-mate Kabugee (Satono Aladdin). Given time (37 days), she rates a top three chance from barrier five in the $12,000 2YO 1100 metres.
12:58 p.m. R2 2 Asperitas (3 g Shooting to Win - Sehaab) - Opie Bosson; cornered awkwardly after leading but he kept finding for a solid fourth in a race that delivered Te Akau first four, won by Highborn (Savabeel), in a $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres on 12 January at Matamata. He is a top three prospect in a corresponding event that features two stable runners.
12:58 p.m. R2 8 Luxembourg (3 g Burgundy - Miss Daphne) - Joe Kamaruddin (a2); appeared to peak on his run for sixth when debuting in a Maiden 1100 metres on 19 January at Te Rapa, which was won by stable-mate Ange De Reve (Belardo). He receives the opportunity to improve further in the $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres, has drawn the ace, has weight relief to 56kg, and is from a good family.
2:06 p.m. R4 7 Soprano Supreme (4 m Contributer - Falsetto) - Joe Kamaruddin (a2); collected NZB Pearl Series Bonus ($11,500) when bolting in winning Maiden Fillies & Mares 1600 metres on 12 January at Matamata, and steps up in the $12,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. He has drawn one in a good field, she brings form to have first four claims.
2:45 p.m. R5 12 Dancarina (3 f Sebring - Dance for Me) - Opie Bosson; galloped home strongly to win at the trials on 21 December at Ellerslie, and ran the fastest last 600m (34.6) for third to stable-mate Highborn (Savabeel) - in a Te Akau first four - when debuting in a Maiden 1200 metres on 12 January at Matamata. Unfortunately she has drawn out (13) in the $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres, but nonetheless rates a top three chance.
3:20 p.m. R6 8 Savasilk (3 f Savabeel - Silk Pins) - Opie Bosson; found one better when second to impressive winner Glory Bound (Tavistock) in a Maiden 3YO 1400 metres on 12 January at Matamata. Contesting the $12,000 NZB Pearl Series' Maiden Fillies & Mares 1400 metres, she is capable of finishing in the first three.
4:30 p.m. R8 4 Devoted (4 g Contributer - Mapmaker) - Opie Bosson; saved ground when running home well for third in a Rating 65 1800 metres on 30 December at Taupo, and did well for third to subsequent winner Spirit of Baz (Charm Spirit) in a Rating 65 2100 metres on 19 January at Te Rapa. Unfortunately he is awkwardly drawn (9) in the $30,000 Rating 65 2100 metres but brings form to rate a top three prospect.
