Te Akau Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Saturday 16 February: Ellerslie, and Invercargill.

Ellerslie:

As on Friday 15 February the conditions were: fine and Dead5, rail out 8 metres. No rain forecast.

3.20 p.m. R6 5 In A Twinkling (3 g Fastnet Rock - Moment in Time) - Rosie Myers;
stood the leader 12 lengths at the 600m before running home from last in a faster
time (34.3) than the winner in the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (Restricted
Listed, 1600m) here on 26 January. He ran a very good race for fourth in the
2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), and although drawn wide (18) stepping up in
distance looks ideal in the $100,000 Schwepps Avondale Guineas (Gr. 2, 2100m). Fixed odds: $81.00 &
$19.00.

3.20 p.m. R6 11 Prise De Fer (3 g Savabeel - Foiled) - Opie Bosson; contested the
same race as In A Twinkling (above) here last time: $1m Karaka Million 3YO
Classic (Restricted Listed, 1600m), working clear at the 200m and finding the
line solidly for sixth with Bosson aboard. Again drawn (1) to get a soft trip
in the $100,000 Schwepps Avondale Guineas (Gr. 2, 2100m), he has done little
wrong and gets his chance up in distance. Fixed odds: $15.00 & $4.50.

3.55 p.m. R7 1 Chance to Dance (9 g Teofilo - Crystal Ballet) - Opie Bosson; ran a solid race for third to subsequent winner Consensus (Postponed) in the Trentham Stakes (Gr. 3, 2100m) on 12 January at Trentham, and pleased in a recent exhibition gallop at Matamata. Also unsuited by handicap conditions (59kgs) in the $100,000 Coca-Cola Avondale Cup (Gr. 2, 2400m), he has won here and the race serves ideally as a lead-up to the $500,000 Auckland Cup (Gr. 1, 3200m) on 9 March at Ellerslie, where is drops to 56kgs. Fixed odds: $18.00 & $5.00.

Invercargill:

As on Friday 15 February the conditions were: fine and Slow8, rail true. 4mls rain forecast Friday and no rain Saturday.

3.39 p.m. R7 3 Weaponry (3 g Declaration of War - Cat Shmea) - Dylan Turner; headed
South after making the perfect start to his racing career, two wins from two
starts, before finishing third in the Gore Guineas (Listed, 1335m) and denied
room when fourth in the Dunedin Guineas (Listed, 1500m) on 2 February at
Wingatui. Drawn the outside barrier (9) in the $50,000 ILT Ascot Park Hotel
Southland Guineas (Listed, 1600m), he has won on slow footing and rates a
strong chance again. Fixed odds: $2.80 & $1.26.
