Te Akau Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses entered for the nine-race programme at Rotorua, and one on the eight-race card at Awapuni, on Saturday December 27.

Rotorua:
As on Satuday raceday December 27 the conditions were: overcast and Dead4, rail true.

3.04 p.m. R4 9 Arpeggio (3 f Tavistock - Macchiato) - Matt Cameron; was given time following her debut run, where she fought solidly off a wide trip, and now takes her place in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. She will be ridden to receive cover from barrier seven and look for her to be hitting the line. Her dam, Macchiato (Night Shift), was a course/distance winner and showed to be an impressive performer with success in four of her nine starts.

3.37 p.m. R5 1 Maestro (4 g Encosta De Lago - Miss Scarlatti) - Matt Cameron; fought solidly for fifth when facing a stronger field on Dec. 10 in the Maiden 1600 metres at Ellerslie, and remains at a similar trip in the Maiden 1560 metres. Consistent in his four starts to date, he wears the addition of blinkers to add a competitive edge and although drawn wide he can join the fray with a bit of luck in running.

4.12 p.m. R6 12 La Adelita (4 m High Chaparral - Romantic Liaisons) - Matt Cameron; had little chance from the rear in a leader dominated race when resuming on Nov. 14 in the Rating 65 1400 metres for fillies and mares at Woodville. She was impressive winning on debut, has been patiently handled since, and strips in the right order to prove competitive from barrier nine in the Rating 65 1560 metres.

5.25 p.m. Star of Greenbeel (4 g Savabeel - Greensleeves) - rider to be advised; requires a scratching to escape the ballot and make his debut in the Maiden 1200 metres. He exercised his galloping ability in two wins and a second from three trials since joining the stable, with good form around him. Despite drawing barrier ten, expectations would see him forward in running and prove competitive if able to emulate his recent endeavours.

New Plymouth:
As on raceday Saturday Dec. 27 the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail out 2 metres from the 800m to the 400m, otherwise true.

2.07 p.m. R3 6 Enshrine (2 f Minstrel Court - Pinstinct) - Jonathon Parkes; makes her debut from barrier four in the Maiden 2YO 1000 metres, following two tidy trial performances. She possesses natural precocity and strength, in keep with her winning siblings: The Looker (Handsome Ransom) and Enhance (Saperavi), also owned and bred by Karyn Fenton-Ellis. With only two race day performers amongst her rivals there is an element of the unknown, but the family does act well fresh.
