Te Akau Saturday Pukekohe Preview

Te Akau Racing has nine horses entered on Easter Saturday (8 April) at Pukekohe.

Weather: cloudy, track: Soft5, rail: out 4 metres. No rain forecast.

1:51 p.m. R3 5 Belle of the Ball (4 m Savabeel - Lady Tatia) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she has been freshened since contesting the Kaimai Stakes (Listed, 2000m) on 25 February at Matamata, and resumes in the $35,000 Rating 86 1400 metres. She has won twice at 1400 metres and is Group Three placed at 1600 metres. She is very consistent, has the ability to act fresh, is course/distance placed at her only attempt, and rates a top three chance from the handy barrier two. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $1.90.

1:51 p.m. R3 6 The Perfect Pink (4 m Savabeel - The Solitaire) - Craig Grylls; she got to the outside in the straight and finished off well for second in a trial on 28 March at Taupo, and she also resumes in the $35,000 Rating 86 1400 metres. She won the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) on soft ground, and is destined to increase in trip, but she has the quality to race well fresh-up. Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.30.

2:25 p.m. R4 1 Fellini (3 g Belardo - Silke Top) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); he ran fastest last 600m (34.4) with a strong finish from last in the $30,000 3YO 1400 metres on 25 March at Tauranga, and contests the corresponding event. He carries top weight (58.5kg), but does have genuine attributes, is a stakes' performer, as well as a course winner at his only attempt. He poses a top three chance from barrier two. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.20.

2:25 p.m. R4 2 Insatiable (3 g All Too Hard - All Day Baby) - Jonathan Riddell; he ran home solidly for sixth in the same race as Fellini (above) at Tauranga, and contests the corresponding event. At his previous start, he kept finding line for second in the Rating 65 1200 metres here on 11 March and certainly has the ability to be considered a top three prospect from barrier five. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.

3:34 p.m. R6 4 Image of You (5 m Pins - Exactly Like You) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she was never off the bridle and was not far away at line when trialling on 21 March at Taupo, and resumes in the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. Last time out, in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 3 January at Matamata, she ran the fastest last 600m (33.7) on the day when finishing second to stable-mate and subsequent Levin Classic (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Romancing The Moon (El Roca). She is very capable but requires a good dose of luck from her wide draw (18). Fixed odds: $15.00 & $4.50.

3:34 p.m. R6 6 She's A Showoff (4 m Showcasing - Que Sera) - Ryan Elliot; she remained in a pocket and went to line untested in a trial on 21 March at Taupo, and also resumes in the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. She possesses the ability to act fresh, has won twice at 1200 metres on rain-affected footing, and should go well if she can secure a decent trip from her wide gate (14). Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.80.

3:34 p.m. R6 7 Hayate (4 m Maurice - Vamoose) - Craig Grylls; she held her spot finishing fifth in a trial on 21 March at Taupo, and likewise resumes in the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. She ended her previous campaign in January, finishing third in the same race as Image of You (above). With two wins from seven starts, she is formulating a good record. She has the ability to act fresh, but is yet another needing a lot of luck from a wide draw (17). Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.80.

3:34 p.m. R6 10 Luxuriant (5 m Iffraaj - Opulent) - Warren Kennedy; she resumed with a big finish for second in the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres on 25 March at Tauranga, with Kennedy aboard, and contests the corresponding event. She is ideally drawn (5) to race well again if appreciative of the course at her first attempt. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.

4:09 p.m. R7 5 Aromatic (6 m Sacred Falls - Vickezzchardonnay) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she resumed with notable effort in the Open Handicap 1500 metres on 4 March at Te Rapa, and posted a huge effort off a      wide trip for second to unbeaten race rival Pearl Of Alsace (Tavistock) in the Cuddle Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m) on 18 March at Trentham. She won the Counties Cup (Gr. 2, 2100m) here in November, appreciates some give in the ground, and should race well with decent trip from barrier nine in the $300,000 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m). Fixed odds: $11.00 & $3.50.

4:09 p.m. R7 16 Skew Wiff (3 f Savabeel - Starvoia) - Michael McNab; resumed with smart victory in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 25 February at Matamata, and top performance for second to stable-mate Romancing The Moon (mentioned above) in the Levin Classic (Gr. 1, 1600m) on 18 March at Trentham. She produced a mighty run for second to subsequent Australian Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Legarto (Proisir) in the Eight Carat Classic (Gr. 2, 1600m) on Boxing Day at Pukekohe. A quality filly, she is suited by weight-for-age scale (54.5kg), and rates a top three chance from barrier five in the $300,000 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m). Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.80.
