Te Akau track work highlights - Saturday 9 January -

Course proper (Dead/Slow):

Xtravagant (K. Jones) and Zambezi Warrior (Ritchie) worked together over 1200m in 1:27, last 600m in 39.5, travelling easily. Record setting 2000 Guineas winner Xtravagant (Pentire) contests the $225,000 Levin Classic (Gr. 1, 1600m) next Saturday, January 16 at Trentham. In good form, Zambezi Warrior (Pentire) races in the Maiden 1600 metres next Friday, January 15, at Matamata.

Opulent (Lammas) and Shillelagh (Hercock) ran 1200m in 1:21.8, last 600m in 39.5. Both mares are on target for the $70,000 Anniversary Handicap (Gr. 3, 1600m) next Saturday at Trentham.

Ekraarstatic (Coleman) worked over 1200m in 1:23, last 600m in 39.5.

Flaming (Hercock) and Vinevale (Lammas) ran 1000m together in 1:08.2, last 600m in 39.4, both travelling well. Vinevale (Flying Spur) races over 1400m on Friday at Matamata, and Flaming (Bachelor Duke) this Saturday over 1200m at Trentham.

Sand track:

I See Fire (K. Jones) and Princess Davone (Hercock) ran 1000m in 1:08, last 600m in 38, which was very nice work. I See Fire (Encosta De Lago) debuts over 1200 metres next Thursday at Wanganui. Stakes' placed in both the Listed Canterbury Belle and Listed John Grigg, Princess Davone (Iffraaj) is scheduled to trial next Tuesday at Cambridge. She is earmarked for the Gore Guineas (Listed, 1335) on January 23 at Gore.

Tavis Star (Lammas) worked over 1400m. She ran the 1000m in 1:08, last 600m in 39, enjoying her work. Tavis Star (Tavistock) is preparing for the Rating 75 2000 metres next Friday at Matamata.

Cathedral Cove (Shailer) and Herschal (Ritchie) ran 1000m, with the last 800m in 54 and 600m in 40.

Bishop Rock (Ritchie) ran an easy 1200m, clocking the last 600m in 41.

Sand track, three-quarter pace:

Vive La Difference (K. Jones) worked over 1200m. She ran the 1000m in 1:16, last 600m in 45.5.

2 f High Chaparral - Dancing Forever (Lammas) and 2 f Murtajill - Forbetterforworse (K. Jones) went a nice 800m.

All-weather track:

Red Poppy (Hercock) and Skyscraper (Lammas) ran 1000m in 1:03, last 600m in 39. Both horses are scheduled to race on the home course next Friday, January 15.

Corporate Missile (Fawcett), Leonessa (Lammas) and 2 f Savabeel - Catalina (Hanafi) went 600m in 40.6 - main picture from left.

Heroic Valour (Ritchie - below left) and 2 g Pins - Miss Katella (Shailer - below right) went 600m at three-quarter pace in 44, going easily.
