Te Akau Shark Confirmed for Cox Plate

Te Akau Principal David Ellis has today confirmed that Te Akau Shark will head to the Group 1 Cox Plate.

"After in depth discussion with our New Zealand trainer Jamie Richards, the decision has be made today - Te Akau Shark will re-locate to Melbourne in coming days," David Ellis commented.

"Te Akau Shark's run for second in the Group 1 Epsom from the wide barrier, and giving the winner 4kgs, was an impressive performance. He certainly deserves his chance and all going well with him, he will be at Moonee Valley on 26 October for, as the Club puts it, "the greatest two minutes in sport."

Australian media outlet justhorseracing.com.au reported:

After finishing a close second behind Kolding in the Epsom Handicap at Randwick last Saturday, Te Akau Shark will now begin preparations for the Cox Plate.

Te Akau Shark's owner David Ellis confirmed the news that he would head to the Cox Plate 2019 after pulling up well from his run in the Epsom.

Trainer Jamie Richards said on Sunday that a step up to 2000 metres wouldn't trouble the boom horse.

“I think the way Te Akau Shark finished off in the Epsom, a step up to 2000 metres won't be a problem so that opens a number of avenues for him.”

Te Akau Shark is currently a $11 chance in Cox Plate odds with online bookmaker Sportsbet.
