Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview

Te Akau horses racing at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore, where 2015 Trainers' Premiership winner Mark Walker lies third on the Trainers' Premiership - now with 52 wins since 1 January (as at 18.9.16).

Sunday 18 September

4.40 p.m. R1 10 Q NINE MAGIC - App CK Ng (a3); the first of two stabe starters in the Class 5 1200m on the turf long course B has drawn awkwardly (13 of 14) and carries 54.5kgs with the apprentice claim.  He hasn't had a lot of luck lately and with the draw, that might not change here - a place chances looks best.

4.40 p.m. R1 15 PRETTY ELUSIVE - tba; with two scratchings in the event, he may get off the ballot for a start - this is confirmed on race morning - if a starter, he has drawn well at four and will carry 57kgs.

5.10 p.m. R2 12 BIG REGARDS - App S Anandan (a1); again two stable runners and both on debut today, the first draws the carpark (14 of 14) for the S$65,000 Initiation 4YO+Below WFA 1200m on the turf long course B.  With just 50kgs on his back (carded at 51 but with the apprentice allowance), he will need a mile before we see him at his best.

5.10 p.m. R2 13 GOLDEN COIN - Derreck David; the second debutant in this for Mark Walker has drawn the ace and also has a lightweight at just 51kgs.  He too will need a mile before he shows his best.

5.40 p.m. R3 3 VIVIANO - Manuel Nunes; carrying the well-regarded Raffles Racing colours, this gelding has been very consistent since arriving in Singapore.  In the Open Benchmark 83 over 1200m on the polytrack, he jumps from gate eight (of nine runners) and carries 56kgs.  He has had a very good season and as a result, is up in class now.  He has been freshened for this - a top four chance.

6.10 p.m. R4 11 DOUBLE JEOPARDY - App CK Ng (a3); just a featherweight, with the claim, of 47kgs for the Fortuna runner who will jump from a handy gate (4) in the Maiden 1600m on the polytrack. In this 12 horse line-up, and with the good draw, he gets his chance to break his maiden status tonight - a top four chance.

6.40 p.m. R5 3 MIGHTY CONQUEROR - Shafiq Rizuan; two times to the races for two wins for this promising 4YO son of Patapan - he has drawn well at four and carries 57kgs in the Class 4 1200m on the turf long course B. He is in super form - a top four chance in the 11-strong assembly.

7.45 p.m. R7 4 IKING - Shafiq Rizuan; in this Class 3 1400m on the turf long course B, this hardy campaigner has drawn barrier nine of 11 runners and carries 57kgs for Te Akau's former two-time champion apprentice.  He is an older horse now and has had a freshen up but might need to get back to Class 4 to return to winning form.

8.50 p.m. R9 9 ROCKFAST - Derreck David; the feature event on tonight's programme is the S$200,000 Group 3 Committee's Prize for 3YO+ over 1600m on the turf long course B.  One of 12 combatants is Rockfast, who finished a gallant third in the Group 1 Singapore Derby, has drawn nicely (3) and won't know himself with just 50.5kgs on his back.  He is a dangerous lightweight and any rain would be a big assist - he presents as a top four chance.

9.25 p.m. R10 1 KEEN DRAGON - App CK Ng (a3); he has drawn the ace and with the apprentice allowance, drops to 55.5kgs in the Class 4 1000m on the Polytrack.  The first of two for Mark Walker, he has freshened up nicely and with the claim - a top four chance.

9.25 p.m. R10 2 PURE JUSTICE - Manuel Nunes; our second runner in this also has a favourable draw (4) and, in the hands of Singapore's leading rider, he is weighted with 58.5kgs.  He disappointed first up, blinkers go on but he needs to improve.
