Te Akau Singapore Friday Preview
30 September, 2016
Te Akau horses racing at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore, where 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner Mark Walker lies third on the Trainers' Premiership - now with 55 wins since 1 January (and a hat-trick last weekend).
Friday 30 September - there is no Sunday meeting at Kranji this weekend
10.20 p.m. R1 6 ZARULES - Shafiq Rizuan; draws well (3) in this 12-strong Kranji Stakes D SW 1200m event on the polytrackm and carries 56.5kgs. Back from a bleeding attack, he will find this distance too short and will improve with the run.

12.20 a.m. (Saturday) R3 2 EATON'S GOLD - Shafiq Rizuan; in his five years in Singapore, this now 8YO has earned his Fortuna owners $416,000 which shows his consistency. In this Open Benchmark 67 1000m on the polytrack, he has drawn eight of 11 and carries 58kgs. The first of two in this event for Mark Walker, he passed the barrier test for “misbehaviour†on Tuesday and if he does everything right out of the barriers, he is a top five chance.
12.20 a.m. (Saturday) R3 3 CHAMPAGNE REIN - Manuel Nunes; the second stable representative has drawn better (6) than his stablemate and carries 57.5kgs for the top rider. He disappointed last start but the track had just been resurfaced and he was down on the inside on the heavy part so he can be forgiven that run. He looks a reasonable chance of a top four finish in this relatively thin race that does however contain three or four other good chances.

12.50 a.m. (Saturday) R4 6 READY FORTUNE - Manuel Nunes: another for the Fortuna team finished better last time when fourth and in the Class 5 1700m on the polytrack, he has drawn a handy gate (3) and will carry just 53.5kgs in this 12-strong field. He's getting down in the weights now and in Class 5, he's always a top five chance.

1.20 a.m. (Saturday) R5 5 DISTINCTIVE DARCI - Manuel Nunes; this 3YO son of Darci Brahma has made a flying start to his Singapore career after being purchased from the Karaka Sale by David Ellis. Second on debut, followed by a fourth placing, he has now won his last two races and will be well supported to make it a hat-trick tonight. However, he unfortunately has copped the widest barrier (12 of 12) and carries 55.5kgs but he always jumps and puts himself on the speed. If he has any luck from that barrier draw, he is a top three chance.

1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R6 4 BEST JADE - Manuel Nunes; in this 12-strong Kranji Stakes D SW 1200m on the polytrack, he is another who has drawn the nightmare of 12 of 12 and carries 58kgs. Fair to say he has disappointed at his last two, however he went back to the barriers on Tuesday for some re-schooling and if he jumps out and does everything well, he's a top five chance.

2.20 a.m. R7 7 KAM'S COMET - Manuel Nunes; this very talented galloper takes on a field of 11 opponents in the S$100,000 Open Benchmark 97, the 1100m feature on tonight's programme, also raced on the polytrack. He has drawn well (4) and carries 56.5kgs and is coming back to good form albeit he faces very strong fields every time he races. In this field he warrants respect - a top four chance.

2.50 a.m. (Saturday) R8 4 ROC THAT - App Z Razali (a2); Mark Walker starts a duo in this 12-strong Class 4 1600m on the polytrack. The first, to be ridden by the two kg claiming apprentice, has fared worst in the draw, drawing the extreme outside 12 of 12 and with the claim will carry 55.5kgs. A couple of question marks here - the polytrack and stepping up to 1600m - and with a wide draw he will have to be ridden back and ridden for luck - will assess after tonight's run.
2.50 a.m. (Saturday) R8 9 STAR STRIKE - Shafiq Rizuan; the second of the Walker two has drawn the exact opposite (1) and will carry 54kgs. He has been disappointing since he arrived in Singapore and he needs to improve.

3.20 a.m. (Saturday) R9 4 KEEN DRAGON - Shafiq Rizuan; another field of 12 and again two runners for the stable - a handy draw (5) with a weight of 56kgs for this 6YO gelding in the Class 4 1100m on the polytrack. He finds a suitable race here and Shafiq has a good record on the horse - a top five chance.
1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R9 8 AHMAR - Antonio Da Silva; the second starter and the last of the evening for Mark Walker has also drawn nicely (3) and will carry 54.5kgs. He debuts tonight and will be better when he gets back on to the turf. The distance is too short tonight and is a stepping stone.
