Te Akau Singapore Friday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, the Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained nine winners this season (five last weekend) and leads the Trainers' Premiership.

Friday 20 January - note no Sunday meeting this weekend -

11.20 p.m. R1 4 CLUTHA LAD - Gerald Mosse; three Mark Walker runners to begin the programme. The first, a son of Thorn Park has copped the car park draw, 12 of 12 in the Class 5 1700m on the polytrack and carries 55.5kgs. His form doesn't read that well but the trainer still has faith in the horse - top five chance.

11.20 p.m. R1 6 Q NINE MAXIM - App CK Ng (a3); the second starter has drawn five and with the apprentice aboard, will drop to 51kgs. He didn't have all favours last week - top five chance.

11.20 p.m. R1 8 CLERMONT CLUB - Alan Munro; the last of the trio draws the coveted ace draw and has a lightweight of 51kgs to carry. A tidy third placegetter last start, he is in good form with a handy draw - top five chance.

11.50 p.m. R2 8 MAJOR TOM - Manuel Nunes; the champion jockey returns and in this S$75,000 Restricted Maiden 2&3YO WFA 1400m on the turf long course A, this Fortuna owned horse will carry 57kgs and jump from barrier two, in a field of 11 runners. He has had two Kranji starts, finishing fourth on both occasions, and he is a promising horse - strong top four chance.

12.20 a.m. (Saturday) R3 3 TURQUOISE KING - Manuel Nunes; in this Class 4 1400m on the turf long course A, he has drawn nicely (2) and carries 56.5kgs. Lining up against 13 other opponents, he has been disappointing but has drawn well - place chance.

12.50 a.m. (Saturday) R4 7 ELHAAME - App MM Firdaus (a1); a Maiden 1000m event on the polytrack, he has drawn seven of 12 and carries 53 kgs. He has had some gears changes as he can be erratic and needs to improve.

1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R6 3 VRAAD - App Z Syed (a4); two from the stable in this Class 5 1200m on the turf long course A, the first draws eight and with the claim drops to 55kgs. He is having his first start in Class 5 but he still needs to improve on past performances.

1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R6 STARSKY - App CK Ng (a3); another apprentice engaged in this event and this pair draws 11 of 14 with 53.5kgs to carry. He is possibly bound for Malaysia as he has been disappointing.

2.20 a.m. (Saturday) R7 3 NAZIR - App R Zawari (a2); three stable runners in this Open Benchmark 74 over 1400m on the turf long course A. The first draws gate five and will carry 55kgs, courtesy of the apprentice claim. The winner of two of his last three starts, it is an honour to train for Dato Tan Chin Nam and Dato Terry Lee. He's in great form - top four chance.

2.20 a.m. (Saturday) R7 7 IKING - App CK Ng (a3); the second for the stable in this S$80,000 event has drawn best (2) and carries 51kgs with the apprentice allowance. He is an older horse now but can never be discounted in these sort of races - top four chance.

2.20 a.m. (Saturday) R7 8 STORM TROOPER - Manuel Nunes; the final leg of the stable treble in this field of just nine starters has drawn eight and will carry 53.5kgs. He would need rain to be competitive in Class 3 level.

2.50 a.m. (Saturday) R8 2 CRAZY TIMES - App R Zawari (a2); two stable starters in this Open Benchmark 67 over 1200m on the polytrack. The first has copped the widest draw in the 12 strong assembly and will carry 55kgs with the claim. He brings a very good formline to the contest in his first start for the stable but as he is returning from injury, he may need a few runs.

2.50 a.m. (Saturday) R8 11 EN CIVIL - Gerald Mosse; the second for Mark Walker was a winner at his last appearance and today has drawn handily (3) and carries 54.5kgs. His last start win came in a tougher grade and he retains his good form - top four chance.

3.20 a.m. (Saturday) R9 11 STAR STRIKE - Manuel Nunes; to complete the night, this Class 4 1400m on the turf long course A where Mark Walker's final runner has drawn 12 of 14 and has 53kgs on his back. This son of Sakhee's Secret has a solid formalise of 4-5-3-3 from his last four - he has been disappointing but he looks to be coming into form - each way chance at good odds.
