Te Akau Singapore Friday Preview
10 February, 2017
The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, Te Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained 11 winners this season and lies second on the Trainers' Premiership.
Friday 10 February -
11.20 p.m. R1 6 Q NINE MAGIC - Gerald Mosse; two runners for Mark Walker to start the programme in this Class 5 1400m on the turf long course E. Unfortunately he has copped a wide draw (8 of 11) and with 56kgs, the international rider will be a great assist to a horse in good form - a top four chance
11.20 p.m. R1 BRAHMS AND LISZT - Shafiq Rizuan; the second runner is dealt an even worse blow draw-wise being 11 of 11 and he carries 55kgs. The veteran is always competitive in this grade although he will need a ton of luck from the ‘carpark'.
11.50 p.m. R2 8 LIM'S CONTROL - App CK Ng (a3); a field of 12 for this Maiden 1200m on the turf long course E where he has drawn barrier five and with the claim, will carry only 51.5kgs. This race probably looks a bit tough for him.
12.20 a.m. (Saturday) R3 UNSURPASSED - Manuel Nunes; a lightweight of only 51.5kgs, this son of Exceed and Excel jumps from gate 10 in the field of 10 starters for the Class 4 1200m on the turf long course E. A winner two starts back, he needs got get back down to Class 5 to be competitive.
1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R6 6 COURT CASE - Shafiq Rizuan; a handy draw (2) and 54kgs for this Star Witness gelding in the S$60,000 Class 4 1200m on the turf long course E. He faces off against nine other competitors, is in good form and this is his first try on the turf in Singapore - a top four
chance.
2.50 a.m. R8 5 HAYTHAM - Oscar Chavez; he draws well (3 of 10) for the S$75,000 Novice SW 1200m also on the turf long course E. With 55kgs on his back, he too is having his first go on the turf in Singapore, is in good form and rates a top five chance. The first of two in the eighth race for trainer Mark Walker.
2.50 a.m. R8 8 AUSPICIOUS ACE - Alan Munro; the second for the stable in this Novice event and the last runner for the night, he also draws nicely (4 of 10) and will carry 53.5kgs. He won on debut in Singapore before finishing a solid fourth last start, wears visor blinkers for the first time and looks well - top five chance.
