Te Akau Singapore Friday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, the Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained 41 winners and continues to lead the Trainers' Premiership - after a trio of wins last Sunday.

FRIDAY 9 JUNE

10.50 p.m. R1 9 LIM'S SIGNATURE - App R Zawari (a2); the ace draw for Mark Walker's first starter for the night in the Class 5 1200m on the polytrack where, with the apprentice aboard, he carries 53.5kgs. In this field of 11 runners, he has been unlucky and needs all favours from barrier but he rates an outside chance at good odds.

11.20 p.m. R2 1 QINGDAO - Oscar Chavez; a handy draw (3) in this Open Maiden WFA 1600m on the turf short course C where this 4YO is weighted with 58kgs. Facing a compact field of only six other runners, he has been disappointing and needs to improve.

12.50 a.m. (Saturday) R5 4 CLUTHA LAD - Shafiq Rizuan; this hardy campaigner has enjoyed a recent purple patch of form (1-2-3-5-9) and jumps from gate three with 57kgs on his back in this Class 5 1600m on the polytrack. The 7YO son of Thorn Park has earned over $300,000 in prize money and facing this field of 10, he's an older horse but has freshened up nicely - a top four chance.

1.20 a.m. (Saturday) R6 2 TURQUOISE KING - Vlad Duric; another good draw for the team (1) in this Class 3 1600m on the turf short course C where this 6YO Stratum gelding carries 57kgs. He too is in good form (1-3-3-5-1) and in this 10-strong assembly, expect the last start winner to give a strong sight tonight - in great order, he has really improved this preparation but faces his toughest field to date - a top four chance.

1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R7 2 VIVIANO - App R Zawari (a2); representing the Raffles' Racing team, he has been racing solidly (1-4-4-2-5) and breaks from gate five with 56.5kgs thanks to the claim. In this Open Benchmark 83 over 1200m on the turf short course C and vying for a thick end share of the S$100,000 stake, he faces nine opponents and is a horse that goes very well fresh. This however is a tough field - place chance.

2.20 a.m. (Saturday) R8 11 JACK'S SECRET - Derreck David; then final runner for the evening for the stable is this New Zealand bred, a son of Sakhee's Secret - and brother to the talented Major Tom who is also racing in Singapore for Mark Walker and the Fortuna team. In this Class 4 1200m on the polytrack, he draws 8 of 11 but has only 50kgs on his back. Too tough a field - needs an easier race.
