1 September, 2017
Te Akau horses racing at Kranji racecourse in Singapore, where 2015 Premiership winning trainer Mark Walker leads the 2017 Trainers' Premiership with 70 wins since 1 January - a lead of 25 wins.
Friday 1 September - note a day meeting in Singapore and no Sunday meeting this weekend
4.50 p.m. R1 7 MISS WAIMATAITAI - Vlad Duric; the first of two (both mares) for trainer Mark Walker in this Class 5 1400m on the turf long course E. She draws nine of the 12 runners and carries 56.5kgs. A mare with attitude, even now as a 5YO, the daughter of Saperavi has however been racing consistently with a third, second, fourth and third from her last four starts - when she's on her best behaviour! She has start 30 today and is closing in on S$100,000 in stakes' earnings - drawn out on the long course she will need luck - a top four chance.
4.50 p.m. R1 11 SHE'S THE ONE - Ismail Azhar; a slightly better draw for the trainer's second mare in the first event - jumping from gate seven, she has 54.5kgs allocated. Her last two starts have been a little more encouraging and she is improving slowly - blinkers on - top four chance.
5.20 p.m. R2 8 HALLELUJAH - Shafiq Rizuan; a Burgundy filly on debut, formerly named Julia-Rose in New Zealand, she takes her place in the Restricted Maiden 2&3YO WFA 1100m on the polytrack. Jumping from barrier five, with 55.5kgs, she faces a small field but does look one of the main chances in this $75,000 race which features only eight starters.
7.35 p.m. R6 10 HONOR - Derreck David; unfortunately drawing one from the outside in this 12-strong field, this 4YO daughter of Rip Van Winkle will however carry only 52.5kgs in the Class 4 1200m on the polytrack. A last start winner, she faces a big step up in grade and rates a place chance in the S$60,000 race.
8.05 p.m. R7 8 BIG REGARDS - Vlad Duric; a handy draw (3 of 12) for this son of Darci Brahma in the Class 5 1400m on the turf long course E where he will carry 53.5kgs. His last two runs have been improved performances but he still needs to lift further.
8.40 p.m. R8 3 ASPEN - Shafiq Rizuan; this now 7YO son of Alamosa also draws awkwardly, one from the outside in the field of 12 for the Class 5 1600m on the polytrack where the stable presents two starters. Weighted with 58kgs, he brings a solid enough form line in to play (4-2-7-5-5) and any rain would assist.
8.40 p.m. R8 4 LUCKY BOY - Ismail Azhar; the second starter for Mark Walker draws best (6) but still mid-field and has 56.5kgs on his back. Another with a solid enough form line (3-5-8-2-4), he has been consistent - top four chance.
9.15 p.m. R9 7 PURE JUSTICE - Craig Grylls; the New Zealand rider climbs aboard this 5YO who has won two of his last four starts. The first of two for the stable in the Class 3 1000m on the polytrack, he will break from the absolute outside gate (12) with just 52.5kgs to carry. He was somewhat of a surprise winner last time out and up in grade here - place chace.
9.15 p.m. R9 12 UNSURPASSED - App CK Ng (a3); the second of the duo for Mark Walker is this 5yo by Exceed and Excel who has hit a purple patch of form, also winning two of his past four starts. He fares little better draw-wise (11) but with the apprentice aboard, has a featherweight of only 48.5kgs. Hunting down a fair share of the S$80,000 stake, he faces a tough field now at Class 3 level - place chance.
9.45 p.m. R10 12 LIM'S SIGNATURE - Derreck David; the last runner for the evening also has received no rub of the green with his draw of 11 of 12 runners in the Class 4 1000m on the polytrack. A lightweight of 50kgs however for the 5YO, last start Class 5 winning son of Swiss Ace is also up in grade - place chance.
